WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Isn't it weird, how the media have turned so reverent?

She looks like a chipmunk when she talks..

I've never seen a chipmunk talk. Unfortunately, my cats hardly ever give them the chance.

;-)

All Nixon did was try to cover up what his men did. If he'd thrown 'em to the wolves, he would have been ousted for that.

Perry was a barber around here (Cannonsburg).......... used to sing to the customers.

He was smooth as silk and a very nice man!

Funny you should say that because I did feel a bit sorry for her too. But I read her expression as bitter. Oh well, who knows?!

I am liking Lynne Cheney, more and more, by the minute.

She is VERY smart and maintains an appropriate demeanor.

(She didn't laugh at Poppy's joke and I liked that.)

I don't think so. It could be anything.

At least she (again) doesn't look arrogantly bored as her mother (in particular) is wont to look like. You can see it in their eyes.

Speaking of Dem trash, I can NOT believe the trashing at Democratic Underground.

Of course, when we wished the Senator who recently took very ill our best wishes and prayers, they acted shocked that we would behave in such a manner.

Of course, they're still mad about the Warren Commission report because of their kooky conspiracy theories. geesh

Nice thread. Since I didn't get to watch the ceremonies, I can catch up by reading your thread.

:-) Thanks.

I still wish Senator Johnson well. But the reports I've read have not been good indicators of a full or even partial recovery.

I'm rather sure that he was. I think my brother told me that his funeral was held at St. Victor's Catholic Church in Hollywood.

I'm not sure what that means, but he sure came off as a God fearing guy.

And.... what a voice. Yes, I know the cigarettes contributed to that voice and to his death.

Earlier, when the clintons were huddled w/Carter and Hillary was animatedly speaking w/him, Bill abruptly got up and left w/Hillary following him. I found that quite interesting for some reason.

I wish I'd seen THAT!

"I was raised a Democrat, and know very well that they are a culture of sex, violence, and death"

That's quite an indictment of your parents.

Just what business is it of chelsea to be claiming a place of honor in that Cathedral?

"Mama Clinton" can't run on a motherly ticket if she's not proven to be a mother.,p>:-(
