My husband born and bred here in Florida would have candied tomatoes with his hopping john. Course collards and cornbread are a must do as well.

PS.

It's called hopping John cause after eating that meaning beans and rice you will be hopping to the john.

I know lots of folks eat cornbread but i rarely hear of anyone fix'in em in an iron skillet, fried on top of the stove till its crunchy.Used to get em this way and cover em in butter.Have no concern for diets!

We were all too full to eat much of anything today. On New Year's Eve, the son-in-law (native Floridian), fixed up a huge spread of Cracker Boil (blue crab, shrimp, corn on the cob and little potatoes) all boiled til just done with tons of spicy seasoning. It's dumped on a newspaper over a picnic table and then a free-for-all. On the side there was crawfish, stone crab, and steamed clams and oysters and a table full of sides. Delicious Cracker feast!
