I always thought Jinn spoke in tongues like --
"Break, break, I have a fire mission - over"

If you're looking for interesting short stories involving genies, I recommend the 1001 Nights (otherwise known as the Arabian Nights). A lot of it is very definitely PG-13 (for violence), which is why I was only exposed to Ali Baba and Aladdin back in school.

...grew feverish over reports of
jinn haunting and raping women in the district. So when a young woman stumbled out of the forest one day, unkempt and deranged, she was denounced as a jinn. Villagers beat her almost to death. Police finished the job with six bullets at close range.
Why do they always attack the victim?

Remember, in Casablanca, Bogart saying, "Of all the jinn joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."

maybe a load of cheap brass utensils ought to be dumped on them. let them spend their time in rubbing and polishing the lamps and trying to open empty cucurbits, rather in more harmful activities.

There is a novel by Tim Powers called "Declare", which is a cold war spy novel/supernatural thriller. The basis of the story is that the Stalinists are trying to gain control of an evil Djinn who was used by the Nazis, and traded power for blood sacrifices. The book portrays the Djinn in the sort of otherworldly, eerie manner of this article, as opposed to the "magic genie" of Aladdin.

Our lesson in multi-culturalism for the day. Remember kids: Any culture's just as good as Western Civilization. Diversity is strength! ;)
