Poll: Americans See Gloom, Doom in 2007

By DARLENE SUPERVILLE

WASHINGTON (AP) - Another terrorist attack, a warmer planet, death and destruction from a natural disaster. These are among Americans' grim predictions for the United States in 2007.

But on a brighter note, only a minority of people think the U.S. will go to war with Iran or North Korea over the countries' nuclear ambitions. An overwhelming majority thinks Congress will raise the federal minimum wage. A third sees hope for a cure to cancer.

These are among the findings of an Associated Press-AOL News poll that asked Americans to gaze into their crystal balls and contemplate what 2007 holds for the country.

Six in 10 people think the U.S. will be the victim of another terrorist attack next year, more than five years after the Sept. 11 assault on New York and Washington. An identical percentage think it is likely that bad guys will unleash a biological or nuclear weapon elsewhere in the world.

There is plenty of gloom to accompany all of that doom.

Seventy percent of Americans predict another major natural disaster within the United States and an equal percentage expect worsening global warming. Fewer than one-third of people, or 29 percent, think it is likely that the U.S. will withdraw its troops from Iraq.

Among other predictions for the U.S. in 2007:

_Slightly more than one-third, or 35 percent, of Americans predict the military draft will be reinstated.

_One in four, 25 percent, anticipates the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The telephone poll of 1,000 adults was conducted Dec. 12-14 by Ipsos, an international polling firm. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus three percentage points.

Personally, I find it difficult to have much respect for the average Americans thoughts on Terror, taxes, War or any other subject of importance. If it's not on "Oprah", "Jerry Springer" or "The Price is Right" the average American doesn't know.

An article posted here yesterday described a "poll" showing that Americans are nothing but optimistic about 2007. No wonder we have a big problem with drugs in this country, too many people read and believe all these "polls."

IPOS is a French polling agency with outlets in Canada and the US.

Most IPOS polls are "push" polls designed to be negative.

You have to wonder if the French Gov't is helping them with their polling.

Agreed - too many people are hung up on non-issues like global warming because algore and Hollywood tell them this is important and don't give a second thought to the serious issues this country faces.

But on a brighter note, only a minority of people think the U.S. will go to war with Iran or North Korea over the countries' nuclear ambitions.

That alone is reason to "See Gloom, Doom in 2007"

An overwhelming majority thinks Congress will raise the federal minimum wage.

An act that CONgress has no authority to do in a FREE, capitalist country.

A third sees hope for a cure to cancer.

There will NEVER be a "cure" to cancer. Cancer is much too profitable to be eradicated!

Poll: Americans See Gloom, Doom in 2007

The MSM feeds Americans a steady diet of doom and gloom, then along comes a poll which gets this result and feeds it right back to Americans as more news.

Not clear if this is on the 'good stuff' side or the 'doom' side.

I wish they'd ask these rocket scientists something more meaningful like what the POWERBALL numbers are going to be Wednesday night. I could use a little extra cash after the holidays.

I tend to agree.

Six in 10 people think the U.S. will be the victim of another terrorist attack next year, more than five years after the Sept. 11 assault on New York and Washington. An identical percentage think it is likely that bad guys will unleash a biological or nuclear weapon elsewhere in the world.
Well, duh; enough boneheaded citizens decided to "punish" Bush & the Republicans with weak-kneed dhimmocrats. Maybe if more voters put our country ahead of infantile score-settling, we'd feel a bit more secure.

Seventy percent of Americans predict another major natural disaster within the United States and an equal percentage expect worsening global warming.
Over at IMDB, the Best 2006 Documentary was " An Incovenient Truth". Looks like the collective brainwashing is working.

Fewer than one-third of people, or 29 percent, think it is likely that the U.S. will withdraw its troops from Iraq.
Well, maybe if Europe and the contemptible U.N. would face reality and help get rid of this James-Bond/comic-book-villain plot to create Planet Islam, we would have been out of Iraq by now.

Slightly more than one-third, or 35 percent, of Americans predict the military draft will be reinstated.
Apparently, 35% of the Americans polled are stupid and/or poor, according the "wisdom" of Kerry-Rangel.

One in four, 25 percent, anticipates the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Personally, I'm surprised this was even mentioned. The so-called objective press is adverse to mentioning Christ in anything less than negative spin, but will rush to report nothing-but-positive stories on our good ol' warmonger Allah.

[Shake of head]

LOL! I was wondering that too. Also, I think most people see doom and gloom because of the coming shift in power in the Congress. Democrats always bring doom and gloom with them. They are the most pessimistic people on the planet.

What these "pollsters" never tell anyone is that the people being polled are only regurgitating back to them what they are reading and seeing in the "media." These "polls" are really nothing more than a way for the "media" to find out if their propaganda is getting through to the ignorant masses.
