Now, Dear Heart . . .
you should know . . .
"getting a grip"
is the opposite of the customary doctrinal compulsive SOP requirements for the postings hereon by the Jr Accusers.
LOL.Quix, Dear fellow, i believe that you have mistaken my position. i am probably among Rick Warren's most vocal critics.
Still, i have priorities and limits.
i don't care what Warren's political opinions happen to be. My view on this is echoed in the admonishment of that apostacised puritan Henry David Thoreau who said: "Tell me what a man beleives, and I'll tell you what he'll do"
It is my view that Warren's political Faux Pas is simply a symptom of either
- Bad doctrine...or
- poor application of correct doctrine, or
- a combination of BOTH bad doctrine and the incorrect application of correct doctrine.
One treats root causes, not symptoms
LIMITS:
There is plenty of legitimate criticism that is being registered against Rick Warren, Bill Hybles, the late John Wimber, Robert Schuller, Joel Osteen and others.
What i have refused to be a part of are matters that are unsubstantiated gossip, or outright hit pieces on these people. And make no mistake, there have been hit pieces on Warren and others posted here on Freerepublic. i called BS on one of them a while back. Turned out that the organisation that was criticising Warren had problems with the fact that he was "religious", and was giving THEM a bit of competition.
When one claiming to be a minister of the Gospel makes public proclamation of error, he should be publically rebuked.
That is the pattern of Jesus, Peter, and Paul. But what do they know? Jesus was only
God incarnate, Peter and Paul only penned over 1/3 of the New Testament between them </sarcasm>
Apollos, as i just mentioned to
nmh, was confronted with the error of his teaching when he was preaching the baptism of John in Corinth. He made the correct choice of repenting, and preaching corrected doctrine.
The actions taken by Warren in this recent matter offer quite a contrast. It is now demonstrable truth that the man
outright lied when confronted with his errors.
This is neither the leading, or the fruit of the holy spirit by any means.
If Warren doesn't like it, he can take the attitude of Apollos, repent, correct, and move on.
If Warren's disciples don't like it, then they need consider what is motivating them, God or the cult of personality
