Mccain has mostly support of Rinos and Rats, neither can help win the Primaries. I have been poo pooed before on this comment, but I think McCain isn't setting up to get the Republican nomination. I think he's building his hopes on an independent candidacy, maybe with a Democrat as his running mate as a "unity" ticket. He's already said he won't take federal funds which will allow him to take and spend much more private money.
I don't think it has a chance in hell of working, but I think that's what he thinks will work for him. I agree 100% with your assessment of his chances in the Republican primaries.
