My experience is that giving people things and solving their problems only prolongs the inevitable. It does a lot more than that. For example, it creates festering resentment among those who have had the "free" money forcibly taken from them. It makes people regret having voted for a "conservative" when that "conservative" spends THEIR money like a drunken liberal.

Helping people is not something to be taken lightly. I always found the statement: "Why do you hate me, I never tried to help you." a little humorous but true in many instances, but not all. I always figure half the people need help and the wisdom is knowing the difference. But to have the wisdom, you are going to have to take time to get to know them and that is very costly. My brother always says it is worth a few bucks to find out what people are made of.......maybe that is the strategy, to see what is done with a small portion.
