Does Dana Milbank realize that the actual Memorial Service won't be held until Tuesday, at which time, President Bush, and, I assume, the former Presidents, will be there?

Boy, Dana is really ignorant. He can't tell the difference between a closed casket viewing and a funeral. Guess he hasn't gone to many, that's why he can't tell the difference.

There was no huge snowstorm involving the President in TX. Colorado yes. But Crawford no. What happened WAS bad weather, though. Tornado warnings all over that area. Once the SS even got the Prez and Laura in a vehicle and were rushing them to a weather shelter on the property. Just then the alert was cancelled. Probably there was a sighting but the twister went back up into the clouds. Yesterday was one alert after another down there.
It was the eldest son, Michael. He is an Epicopalian Minister as well. I give them all (family and VP) a pass. I'm not defending, I'm saying I cut them slack. That moment at the coffin was very personal and I can see that the family thought of it as a family moment. Whereas Cheney was acting as a close friend and host...he IS President of the Senate. Perhaps he meant to hand her off to them but they didn't know that and thought he was acting in what should have been THEIR place. It's unfortunate. I wish it had been worked out by everyone ahead of time, but apparently it had slipped through the cracks.

The irony of last night, was that Cheney had just said in his remarks that Ford responded to courtesy with courtesy and he responded to discourtesy with courtesy.
Cheney responded to the discourtesy of Michael Ford with the courtesy typical of Gerald Ford.
IMO ,it looked like there was more to it than just grief-it looked like anger and resentment from the son on a personal level towards Cheney, unrelated to the situation at hand.
Or it may have been like you said- just a miscommunication or perhaps, nothing at all.
