A 67-year-old Spanish woman is reported to have given birth to twins according to hospital officials in Barcelona, becoming the world's oldest mother.
The woman, whose name has not been revealed, became pregnant after fertility treatment in Latin America.
She gave birth to the twins, who have been placed in an incubator, by caesarean section early on Saturday.
It was the woman's first birth and she is expected to spend a few days in the Sant Pau hospital recovering.
A spokesman for the hospital, which specialises in high-risk births, said that both the mother and her babies were doing well.
The woman is one year older than Romanian Adriana Iliescu who gave birth in January 2005 to a baby girl.
She too had been pregnant with twins but one of her babies died in the womb.

Wildly irresponsible.
A 67 year old virgin?
Same age as my mother. I can't imagine that.
Lol! This woman MUST have dementia! She just signed her own death warrant! Yikes!
How utterly selfish of the mother, likely to leave her child an orphan in her teens, at the latest.
In a way, this is sad. Her 10-year-old children can watch her become senile and incapable.
Extremely selfish women chances are, she will never see their fifth birthday. And the children will grow up not even knowing their mother.
Sheesh.
That's from Spaced. What a great show.
Shouldn't there be a cut-off age at a fertility clinic?
Good grief. This woman has a lot more years on her than me, and my little grandsons wear me down over one night...AND they go to the bathroom by themselves and can take their own baths and feed themselves with a full array of silverware. No way could I start over with infants, and I'm a spring chicken compared to this lady. Like some other freeper said....WHY??
One would think: A quick psych test would find this woman a little off.
Maybe she's rich like Madonna and will hand over the parenting to the hired help.
meant to say "...and like Madonna she'll hand the children over to the hired help..."
Wow! I had a dream a couple of nights ago that I had another child. I'm 46 and I woke up in a cold sweat, and thankfully, realized it was just a dream.
Our one and only son just turned 10 and no way would I have the energy necessary to care for an infant. We wanted more children, and at an earlier age, but it wasn't in God's plan.
Fertility treatment at 67 just seems so wrong.
God bless those litttle babies. I hope they are well provided for after mom and dad are gone.
