We can and we have. Timothy McVeigh received very swift justice.

You cited a post I responded to, instead of my response. You'll note the quotation marks around the text you cited.

Also, I disagree with you on the subject of McVeigh getting swift justice. It wasn't as bad as the dude who's been waiting for 27 years for his appointment in the execution chamber, but it's not exactly swift, either. We used to do executions considerably faster than we do now. MAYBE it's better that everyone get multiple chances at appeal, since we also seem to convict the innocent more frequently than I'm comfortable with, but I think we need to improve the system considerably.
