So dies a former US ally. The man whom we supported and backed when he was at war with Iran a quarter of a century ago. The man whom we saw as a secular bulwark against the Islamic regime in Iran. The man who is now totally and utterly irrelevant to the current carnage and death being inflicted in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East by Islamic radicals and the jihad against America. Such are the vicissitudes and capricious wind changes of worldly human affairs and political intrigue.
