Bird flu spreads in Vietnam's Mekong delta 28 Dec 2006 09:00:35 GMT
Source: Reuters
More HANOI, Dec 28 (Reuters) - A third Vietnamese province on Thursday recorded an outbreak of bird flu in poultry, a day after the Agriculture Ministry said the disease had been contained.
The Animal Health Department said tests confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus in a flock of 450 ducks in Hau Giang province, adjacent to Bac Lieu and Ca Mau where more than 9,000 ducks and chicken have been slaughtered since bird flu was identified there on Dec. 11.
The virus first arrived in Vietnam's Mekong Delta in late 2003 and has since killed 42 of the 93 people infected in Vietnam.
Vietnam, which has had no human bird flu cases since late 2005, has a human death toll second only to Indonesia's 57, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
WHO says bird flu has killed 154 people out of 258 infected globally since late 2003.

Hughes believes that the Christian community should be at the forefront of preparedness for the Bird Flu..This is stupid.

SOunds like we shpould keep foreigners from infected regions OUT of this country.
I think this is overblown. To what end I don't know, but it is.

Bird flu killed three members of a family in Egypt, pushing the number of fatalities worldwide this year to 79, more than reported in the previous three years combined.
Wake me when it passes the number of people killed by lightning

Going to get flamed, but anything that threatens the offering plate is of major concern to the churches. Surprised it doesn't mention a sanitary drop box for a drive through deposit....

We don't have any birds at our church.
We did until we closed off the lean-to they had taken over. It was gross!
We bought an abandoned warehouse type building and in 3 months turned it into a church. However, there was a lean-to on one side of the building that the pigeons had taken over. There were a good two INCHES on pigeon poop on the floor.
It took an entire day, a fire hose, and 6 people in Tyvek suits and masks to clean it out. After that there were very few repeat appearances but the ones who dared were offered up as a sacrifice!
