Like Father Like Son . . .
By James P. Estrada
December 27, 2006

In the last few years being a conservative I have become used to disappointments. First we had Reagan making deals with the Democrats to get his legislation passed. Then we had the first Bush (Bush 41 supra) who ran around making back room deals with Democrats against everything that his voters voted for.

We had deals on gun control and deals on huge tax increases. Everything was up for compromise and negotiation. When the election came along they socked it to him pointing out his “Read my lips, no new taxes” comment. Now we have the son, (Bush 43 supra) and we have in essence been sold out again. Last week Bush stood by while the new Democratic congress decided to provide no funding for the border fence that so many people whom were Bush voters and good honest citizens of this country railed and rallied for. Not a peep from the White House on this.

Bush 43's immigration enforcement looks like this: call the employer, tell him you are going to raid him, give him 6 months to raise his wages so he can hire Americans to do the job, let him know when you are going to raid (presumably so you can tell the Americans on what day they are going to start), and give his lawyers time to make up an argument so they can postpone any enforcement action and fines.

We have an Immigration case in which a meat packing company named Swift and this is what makes it remarkable: The illegal aliens there stole literally thousands of American ID’s to get the job at Swift and nothing is going to be done by any level of government to compensate these Americans.

After the Katrina disaster in Louisiana there were Americans that were out of jobs who wanted to work but could not find any, but illegal aliens were working for companies that had won contracts to do the clean up from Katrina. Illegal aliens were working and Americans who wanted to work weren’t.

This is putting ordinary Americans in trouble with Credit Bureau’s, the IRS, Banks and virtually every other institution in which an American has to have fiscal transactions. They are costing you more in credit, that you can ill afford because they have already depressed your wages if not having been completely displaced you from employment.

They are also raising your mortgage rates because there is only so much money out there to loan and the laws of supply and demand dictate that with less money to loan being available the rates you pay go up.

Bush 43 is what Bush 41 was . .a RINO (Republican In Name Only). They are not interested in really lowering taxes, that is why the Bush 43 tax cut is temporary. He did it to get re-elected, he learned something from dad, if you promise to lower taxes then raise them you get tossed out.
Sign gun control legislation when you are a “Card carrying member of the NRA” you get tossed out. Everything else has been the give away bonanza from hell, senior drug benefits, war budgets, the Katrina fraud lottery.

I have known people for years that have said if you don’t vote you can’t complain, but if illegal immigration was your issue in the last presidential election exactly whom were you going to vote for? John Kerry whom thinks of illegal aliens as voters or George bush whom wants them here because businesses want them here? What about the last congressional election? The Democrats whom view them as voters or the Republicans whom have had 6 years to fix the problem and have done nothing?

I am sick of hearing the people talking in clichés and then complaining about some of the things that the illegal problem is making worse. “They are only here to do jobs Americans won’t do.” and later in the conversation complaining about the high cost of housing.

Newsflash people: Illegal aliens don’t go home at night, they stay here. So after a long hard day of working in the work force at places like Swift and depressing your wages, and driving up your mortgage rates by competing with you for the home loan, they then go home to their house that they are competing with you to either rent or buy, which drives up the cost of the house (in addition to the interest you are paying to borrow the money) and by necessity your rent or mortgage.

The simple fact of the matter is this: one of your countrymen was displaced from the house that illegal alien is living in. Most states have some kind of tax on houses which means higher values in houses which means you pay more in taxes, as well as insurance for the house.

I am tired of hearing about how they are hard workers and they are just here to work honestly. Arizona’s prison population is comprised of 25% illegal aliens. With an average population of 30,000 inmates and an average cost of $20,000 a year, that is approximately 7500 inmates that are illegal aliens multiplied by $20,000 or $15 million dollars a year. Arizona was number 50 in education last year they sure could have used that $15 million to teach the children of all those illegal aliens English.

The Swift case shows one thing as blatant as if a neon sign had been placed above it. There is no such thing as a job that an American won’t do, but you have to pay them a fair wage to do it.

How many Americans are sitting home now because they can’t find a job that will pay them enough to make it worth their while to pay for a babysitter and get something extra out of the deal at the end of the week? After all this is America and we are still ostensibly a Capitalistic country and nobody should get up in the morning to work for free. So what gives here? Why should you go to work to only make what it costs to hire a babysitter?

Then there is the fairness aspect of this. People from around the world apply to come to American and be Americans. They wait 20 years or more in many cases, and pay thousands of dollars in the hope they will make it here. People with a burning desire to not only come to America but to be Americans.

In some cases where the lines are too long to wait they join the military, even in time of war, because they love America. What about them? Good loyal, honest, hard working, would-be Americans are being denied their place in our society because someone is coming here illegally not because they want to be an American but just because they want a job.

To gain an appreciation of how few of these people have a burning desire to be an American one had to be at the rally that they had in Phoenix. La Raza was handing out American flags to all the illegal aliens at the rally and telling them to put away the Mexican flags because they had a similar rally in Los Angeles that had infuriated many American Citizens because the illegal’s were in Los Angeles waiving Mexican flags.

So the rally went on in Phoenix as planned with American flags waving and as the illegal’s left they decided not to litter their new country and promptly threw the American flags in the trash as they left (after all they would never need them again).

There are many politicians who are worried about Hillary Rodham Clinton running for President and that it will be a coronation and not an election. Were I running against Hillary Rodham Clinton I wouldn’t have a worry in the world. I would run an ad saying “What does Hillary think about illegal aliens depressing your wages?" And then put in a cut of her standing in front of a sea of Mexican flags yelling “Si se puede”
How does Hillary feel about illegal aliens coming to America and stealing your identity? “Si se puede”
“And what about your children getting a worse education as school funds are drained off to teach children of illegal aliens English?” “Si se puede”

And the list goes on and on but you get the idea. Hillary would be down at the border sharing a ride in a Border Patrol dune buggy with Bush 43 the next day.

There is an answer to this but unfortunately nobody has put the common sense solution together with the will to do something. Swift, by hiring illegal aliens, was conspiring to depress wages or was in effect illegally price fixing. Anti trust is still illegal, interfering with contractual relations is illegal (the ability of someone to bargain for their labor).

I imagine there are other civil recourses as well. We could do the American thing and sue the Swift’s of the world out of business.

The writer really needs to look up proper usage of "who" versus "whom." The constant misuse was so distracting in one paragraph that I could hardly follow the general flow of ideas.

Ahhhh! Now the illegal aliens are paying the property taxes Americans can't afford to pay!

We may have to all retire to Acupulco. We can live on Social Security because of the illegal aliens paying in under stolen numbers.

The author must not be able to read election returns.

The following anti-illegal immigration candidates lost. They include:
Minuteman Randy Graf (R-AZ -- who ran for the seat of retiring Representative Jim Kolbe);J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ),John Hostettler (R-IN -- the chair in the 109th Congress of the House Immigration Subcommittee), Chris Chocola (R-IN), Anne Northup (R-KY), Melissa Hart (R-PA),Bob Beauprez (R-CO -- who lost his race for Governor), Charles Taylor (R-NC), Gil Gutknecht (R-MN), and Richard Pombo (R-CA). Many of those defeated are members of the so-called Immigration Reform Caucus (headed by Representative Tom Tancredo (R-CO)) whose ranks have been reduced by the results of this mid-term election.

Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), the third ranking Senate Republican who attacked the victorious Bob Casey (D-PA) over his support for immigration reform, lost his re-election bid by a huge margin. Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ) lost his race to Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), a strong supporter of immigration reform when he was a Member of the House and as a Senator appointed to fill the seat vacated by former Senator Corzine when he became Governor of New Jersey. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) easily defeated challenger Katherine Harris, who attacked the Senator for his position on immigration. And Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) decisively defeated challenger Jan Ting, a former INS official who labeled immigration reform as 'amnesty.'

It also is important to note that several Democratic candidates for governor (in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon, and Wisconsin) were attacked during their campaigns for supporting 'illegal immigration,' yet they all won their races.

The author's problem is not the Republican party or the president. They are just doing what the voters want done. His problem is with the voters. They voted many of the anti illegal immigration candidates out of office and replaced them woath a slue of pro illegal immigration candidates.

The house Republicans had voted to curb illegal immigration and were rewarded with loss of the house.

Polls show that 60 percent of the voters support amnesty. No Republican with a brain will oppose amnesty. It can only cost him is career as a congressman. The voters sent the Republicans a message.. and they got it loud and clear. The Democrats already knew what the voters wanted done.. that is why they support amnesty and a fast path to citizenship.

Try reading the election returns before whining. It may give someone a clue.

"The house Republicans had voted to curb illegal immigration and were rewarded with loss of the house."

Well there you have it: they voted.

We want action, not more votes and political posturing.

The House should have told the Pres. and the Senate to get in line or nothing else would get done.

The Republicans lost because they are Democratlite.

I think you are placing too much emphasis on immigration. In most mid-term elections, the party in power loses seats in Congress.

The 2006 election was compounded by the unpopularity of George Bush. Many independents (who had previously voted Republican) I know voted Democratic or stayed home because they had very little confidence in Bush.

There's a different between being upset about illegal immigration and being a single issue whiner. As a professor, I'd expect you to understand that.

I hate to burst your bubble as you're obviously an "open borders" type of guy, but here's a Pew Research Center exit poll servey published November 8, 2006:

"The political center forcefully asserted itself in Tuesday's midterms. The national exit poll showed that political independents, who divided their votes evenly between George Bush and John Kerry in 2004, swung decisively in favor of the Democrats. With roughly nine-in-ten Republicans and Democrats casting ballots for representatives of their parties, just as they did two years ago, the Democrats' 57%-39% advantage among independents proved crucial.

As expected, the election turned out in large measure to be a referendum on President Bush and the war in Iraq -- bad news for Republicans. About six-in-ten voters (59%) said they were either dissatisfied (30%) or angry (29%) with the president. By more than two-to-one, those dissatisfied with Bush supported the Democratic candidate in their district (69%-29%); among those angry with the president the margin was more than fifteen-to-one (92%-6%).

Bush was much more of a drag on his party's candidates than was former President Clinton in 1994, the year that Republicans won control of Congress. More than a third (36%) of the electorate said they voted to oppose Bush; that compares with 27% who voted to oppose Clinton in 1994, and 21% in 1998, the year Congress impeached the president."

As I stated earlier, the GOP's biggest problem in the 2006 elections was George Bush. This also should dispel those FReepers who claim the GOP lost because the faithful wanted to teach it a lesson

Americans oppose amnesty

A majority of Americans said they oppose amnesty for undocumented workers from other nations who are already residing in this nation, the survey shows. While 52% said there should be no amnesty, 32% said they would favor amnesty for such people.

Congress has estimated that there are 11 million illegal immigrants now living in America. Amnesty was offered to people in this category during the Reagan administration.

As Congress now works on immigration reform legislation in Washington, the survey shows there is a significant partisan divide on this question. Among Democrats nationwide, 51% favor amnesty, while 29% oppose it and another 20% said they are unsure. Among Republicans, just 13% said they favor amnesty, while 76% said they oppose such an offer.

A majority of political independents are opposed to offering amnesty – 50% said they are against it, while 33% said they are in favor of it.

This question also divides the nation based on age of the respondents. While younger respondents favor amnesty in greater numbers, older likely voters do not.

If more conservatives would have the balls this writer has - calling out Bush and Co. on their violation of oath to protect our national security, which starts at the borders - then maybe something could get done. Why should the left be the only ones practicing grassroots activism. If most Americans are against amnesty, and our leaders buck our will, then there should be consequences. In my state, my national senators and rep - 2 Republicans and a Dem - are for amnesty, but my state senator is not. Activism must then begin on the state level.

If anything, this illegal immigration amnesty issue has soured Pub voters regardless of any context, surrounding issues and whether the Dems support it or not. Pubs are frustrated over so many Pub, W, mistakes that this issue only infuriates Pub voters the more when both Bush records are compared and both have led to vicious losses in Congressional races. Border security is connected with terrorism in many minds and rightfully so. The same problem will come up in '08 because Pubs will either have McCain, Rudy, or some other person with a balanced record that can beat the Dem lefty. The Pub voters will either swallow their pride and rightful ideology or lose to the Dem lefty. There simply are not enough Conserv Pubs that can get national approval to beat the Demoncrats nationally. Unfortunately Pubs will have to choose between RINO's , some faux conservs, or a moderate conserv who can actually win. That is the Bush legacy and somehow Pubs need to figure out who can win in '08.
