I have to disagree with you on the Point that the JFK should not be decommissioned.The Kennedy is If I am correct the only oil fired carrier in the U.S. navy. As a result it's very expensive to maintain and keep fueled. CVN's are more expensive but they can cruise around the world with their Reactors for 20 years before the Nuclear fuel rods need to be replaced.

So you want to take its mobile runway and 80 aircraft out of the fleet? AT THIS TIME, WHEN THE STORM IS GATHERING?

KITTY HAWK CV-63 {her senior by three carriers} is still active and is a conventional.
