Just Announced on Fox
I find it amazing that Lady Bird Johnson is still around. She was the first lady over 43 years ago and still kicking. Her health has been rumored poor for several years. There was a rumor that turned out to be false a few years back that she was on her deathbed.
Yes, Rummy would have been 42 or 43 at the beginning of the Ford Presidency.
It's probably Lady Bird Johnson you are thinking of, she is 94.
Oh Thanks, I simply don't remember.
"Our long national nightmare is over.." represents the act of a politican who put country before power.
Rest in Peace.
RIP. Prayers for his family & friends.
Gerry, we hardly knew ye.
Yes, amazing and good for her. I was born under the Johnson Administration and don't really remember her being first lady. But politics aside I am glad for her.
Or Nancy Reagan.
Where my mind is fuzzy is with some of the actors/actress from "way" back when.. I find myself thinking, hanven't heard about/him or her lately.. Check & find it is with good reason.Been dead sometimes for decades.
May you rest in Peace, President Ford. You were a very decent man in a time when our nation needed decent men.
I remember how the media and democrats vilified him.
When he tripped coming down a flight of stairs from an airplane - they laughed and played that tape over and over again. What kind of person laughs when another trips? The kind liberal left, that's who.
Then, of course, he was labeled "stupid."
But they labeled Eisenhower "stupid" too - as soon as he declared he was a Republican - before that he was a revered five star general. He got stupid real fast when they realized he wasn't a Democrat.
And, then, Reagan was declared stupid too. And George Bush (father) and now George Bush (son).
Do you see a trend here? All Republican presidents are "stupid." All democat presidens are "brilliant" - even such as Carter and Clinton. Amazing isn't it? Do you see a trend here?
Of course, Nixon wasn't labeled stupid, he was too evil for that. So he was simply demonized.
Well, anyway.....President Ford: thank you for your service, for your decency and for your patriotism.
Condolences to your family.
Nancy Reagan is only 85 and her health is reported to be pretty good. I don't think she goes out in public much any more, but I assume she will be at President Ford's funeral.
What are the odds of two of 43 men dying on my birthday that happen to be Presidents?
Bump that straight to the top. I was appalled at the foul language that was said over the microphone by Liz Smith during Ann Richards memorial service, including the f-word several times. The attendees turned into an audience and went from tittering to practically howling with laughter. Sick.
And another point, while the media is givng huge air time to Ford's pardoning of Nixon, let us never forget the DOZENS of eleventh hour pardons that Clintoon handed out, many of them HIGHLY questionable. But the media sure as heck won't remind us of that.
I thought that was AuH20's quote. Here's some others.
"We . . . declared our independence 200 years ago, and we are not about to lose it now to paper shufflers and computers."
"Truth is the glue that holds governments together. Compromise is the oil that makes governments go."
"A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have."
LOL, Thanks. Truman and Ford have died on my Birthday. Hopefully the others will pick another day
