probably similar to Michael J. Fox, grasping at a wishful cure, without knowing the extent of "embryonic" stem cell research vs. just stem cell research. I factor in Nancy's age also and agree with your thoughts.

(Rumsfeld, Ford, Cheney)

Actually, in yearbook style that lady on the lower left would be mentioned first. ;-)

Though I was never introduced to President Ford, I was in close proximity to him several times when he accompanied Mrs. Ford to the formal dinner given each year at a well-known 12-Step convention in Palm Springs. The expression on his face was always congenial and pleasant throughout those events. He certainly didn't have to be there. He obviously chose to be there in support of his wife's sobriety. Everyone respected him for being such a wonderful husband and a charming guest. How could they not?

President and Mrs. Ford's openness, understanding and acceptance of the disease of alcoholism has undeniably helped save thousands of lives. Though that may not be the normal measure of a president, it is most assuredly a measure of an extraordinary man.

May President Ford rest in peace. Prayers for his family.

My high school government class took a field trip to a dinner for him in 1975. He is the only president I've had the opportunity to meet and shake his hand.

He is the first president that I voted for. God bless him. And God comfort Betty and his family.

My first presidential election was in 1972, when I was 18, and I voted for Richard Nixon. I was so proud to be among the first groups of 18 y.o.'s who got to vote!

Same here, and I'm proud to say I voted for Mr. Nixon against that Communist McGovern!

Someone tell that idiot in the Fox anchor chair to say "Mr. Secretary" to Al Haig, not "Mr. Haig."

Sheesh.

The Vietnam War ended in defeat for the U.S. during his presidency with the fall of Saigon in April 1975. In a speech as the end neared, Ford said: "Today, America can regain the sense of pride that existed before Vietnam. But it cannot be achieved by refighting a war that is finished as far as America is concerned." Evoking Abraham Lincoln, he said it was time to "look forward to an agenda for the future, to unify, to bind up the nation's wounds."

As a former member of the 101St Airborne in 1975, as Saigon fell, I remember sitting out on the tarmac in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, planes warming up, bags packed, weapons issued, wills updated, waiting for the order to go back in... President Ford, thank you Sir! God Bless!

"I'm in charge here at the White House" Al Haig WAS in charge there, at the White House.

All the rest is a historical smear.

Two little Yippies tried to shoot President Ford

I wouldn't call Charlie Manson Clan members Yippies.

It was the devil's concubines Sarah Jane Moore and Squeaky Fromme.
