December 25, 2006 -- Uri Dan, The Post's Mideast correspondent in war and uneasy peace for the past quarter-century, died of lung cancer in Tel Aviv yesterday at 71.
The author of more than a dozen books on the Middle East, Dan - who would always greet Post colleagues with a warm "Hello, my friend" - also wrote for the Israeli newspapers Maariv and The Jerusalem Post, and was a regular on Israel Radio's daily "It's All Talk."

I am very sorry to hear this. His devotion to Sharon is to be admired. Whatever Sharon's faults, Israel would be better off now with him at the helm at the moment. Of that there is no doubt, IMO. I will the moral clarity and wisdom (and humor) of Uri Dan's columns.

I remember reading Uri Dan's dispatches in the NY Post even 25 years ago. He got around. Rest in peace Uri!
I would speculate that maybe Sharon had a ministroke some time before the big one, which would explain why he went off the rails and left Israel in the hands of Olmert.
In any case, Rest in Peace to Uri Dan.
