Bipartisan Effort to Draft Immigration Bill
NY Times ^ | 12/26/2006 | By RACHEL L. SWARNS

WASHINGTON, Dec. 25 — Counting on the support of the new Democratic majority in Congress, Democratic lawmakers and their Republican allies are working on measures that could place millions of illegal immigrants on a more direct path to citizenship than would a bill that the Senate passed in the spring.

The lawmakers are considering abandoning a requirement in the Senate bill that would compel several million illegal immigrants to leave the United States before becoming eligible to apply for citizenship.

The lawmakers are also considering denying financing for 700 miles of fencing along the border with Mexico, a law championed by Republicans that passed with significant Democratic support.

what can we do to get the attention of DC? Frankly, I don't think they care.

If a million Americans refused to pay their taxes, at the same time, the IRS would be powerless to do anything.

That's the language they understand. Large scale tax revolts. Hit them where it hurts. Money is their lifeblood.

The political elites hold power only because they hold the strings of the public treasury, and the public treasury always needs to be replenished. If they are unable to buy more entitlements, their constituents will turn on them like a pack of rabid dogs (or a school of hungry piranha).

The only major problem is getting enough people to revolt...at the same time. The government rules by fear. Overcoming that fear is a significant challenge, as most of us have grown up being indoctrinated with a fear of the government. Only when the loathing of the current system becomes greater than that fear...will a large tax revolt happen.

Some voters stayed home to "punish" Republicans and the president, but now that the Dems are in charge, they will help the president with amnesty.

Who is being punished?

If enough of us protest, President Bush MIGHT veto. He did change his mind when it came to SCOTUS nominees.

If many of us contact him, and call talk shows, MAYBE we have a chance:

Thanks for the ping WIA!

What a Christmas present....a large dose of reality!

Regardless of how we got to this point, who is and isn't to blame, who voted and who didn't, (and other similar tacts being used here by the FROBLER'S on-going agenda to distract and divide) ALL AMERICANS, regardless of party, must unite IMMEDIATELY to end this travesty. The bipartisan OBL is doing everything in their power, with the support of Bush, to get this shamnesty passed sooner rather than later and '08 is going to be TOO LATE.

I do not believe, however, that doing so will be met with the relatively tame opposition tactics being used here at FR, but rather will be met with the type of violence, but much worse, shown by OBL groups at both Michigan State and Columbia. The OBLers are content to allow the extremist groups to do their dirty work, so long as their agenda is being met. Should Americans take a stand to TAKE BACK AMERICA, make no mistake, we will be taking a stand directly against our own government's agenda and, no doubt, will be seen as such.

So, unfortunately, the only way this is going to end without violence will be the complacency, ignorance, or cowardace of Americans who will simply allow the sovereignty and security of our country to literally be SOLD, to the benefit of millions upon millions of illegal aliens, in the interest of a few OBL elitists, and with the complete support of our President and many of our D.C. leadership.

"You might, or might not, be shocked to learn how many Americans now flee the U.S. in their retirement.

They just don't want to be here for what they see coming, and find their new country more stable."

I never heard that, but I was thinking of doing the same thing when my husband retires.

I like Costa Rica, as it is a moral country, or maybe Ireland, because of language.

Do you know which countries retired folks tend to go to?

"Is there a study somewhere that shows that Mexicans who become citizens and then voters in this country are athiests, parasites, and losers who would therefore, naturally, vote Democrat? I wonder if many of them are honest, hard-working, family-oriented traditionalists who would therefore, naturally, vote Republican?"

Personally, I don't care. Our country has been invaded and those who are here illegally must not be rewarded, for any reason.

"Thomas Jefferson said citizens have the right to over throw the government, when it no longer represents the will of the people. "ARE WE THERE YET"?"

There yet? I don't think America has the united will, but as military, it would present a dilema, would it not, considering which side of this issue our government is on?

For the five of us that are still up, OBL = Open borders Lobby.

Just a hunch, but I wouldn't be surprised if in 2008 Bush is bashed as much on FR as he is on DU. I have a hunch that he can't wait to make a deal with Ms. Nancy on a "comprehensive" immigration bill.

I voted for Bush twice, I could not have voted for Kerry. I am not sorry for the first voted, I thought I was voting for a conservative. The second time I just could not vote for Kerry, and still wouldn't. Having said that I feel that Bush and the elites are traitors on the immigration issue, and could careless about conservatives.
They are elites, they like the slave labor and ,no one mentions, they need to keep excess labor to assure we have people to man the military. The elites aren't going to send their kids and we need a military to protect the multi-nationals.
I won't pick the least of two evils again, if they don't put up someone I can vote for so be it. I will not vote for McCain, or any other RINO.
I have lived in several third world countries, and the rich there like it just fine. Some on this forum like to say well the poor are the lazy and stupid, that won't happen to me or mine because I am educated. In many third world countries you see people with master's degrees driving taxis, the rich take care of their own, and most of us will never break into that group.

I believe the motivations of those (The Open Borders Lobby (OBL)) who would reward them, are set forth very clearly in the Security and Prosperity Partnership, signed by Bush in 2005 and the agenda to create a North American Union. Are you familiar with any of this? I ask, because most aren't and are not aware that legislation to pass amnesty and open borders is just the necessary 'next steps' in their greater agenda.

There are plans to do just that!

See my tagline and check out the list of supporters, speakers and advocate!! I will say this, however, I believe that attempts to pass this legislation WILL happen before the scheduled March to Take Back America.

Bush would make a deal with anyone who supports amnesty and open borders legislation. A great deal has already been invested in this effort and the bipartisan OBL will do everything in it's power to make certain it happens. To the extent that I believe it NO coincidence that the SPP was signed by and still WILL CONTINUE TO BE SUPPORTED by newly 'elected', LIKEMINDED leadership, in both Canada and Mexico.

The election was lost because swing voters voted Dem because of Iraq and corruption not because of the 3 or 4 conservatives that stayed home.

Reagan Democrats?

Do you mean folks like newly elected Democratic Senator James Webb who beat Santorum? Webb worked in Reagan's administration.

You sound like Sean Hannity. What I never understood is why Hannity ranted and railed against Bush and Republicans in general, by using Ronald Reagan as the ultimate conservative. Ronald Reagan was a hero and Bush a dud according to Hannity.

Well, guess what?

Ronald Reagan was the first to give away a massive amnesty program to illegal immigrants. Citizenship was handed to the illegals with no rules and no regulations. If illegals were here, they received amnesty. In the months leading up the this new law, tens of thousands more illegals poured across the border to receive this new amnesty signed by Ronald Reagan.

George Bush insists on some type of penalty being paid for entering the country illegally.

This is all I could think of as I listened to Hannity and tons of Freepers saying that Bush should be more conservative/more Reagan like.

Well, the process is almost complete. Reagan was the last president to give illegal immigrants amnesty. George Bush may follow.

By the way, Reagan was also the last President to raise the taxes on Social Security. George Bush may be the next.

The transformation is almost complete. Bush's presidency is following Reagan's path.

All of these things that are being said about Bush were also being said Reagan at the time.

Reagan died a conservative hero. George Bush is becoming Reagan's clone.

Reagan was forced to work with Democrats to pass legislation, George Bush now has to learn to do the same thing.

Will George Bush get the same respect from conservatives that Reagan got?

Until the folks who call themselves true conservatives can figure out a plan to deal with the 12 to 30 million illegals already in this country, then these conservatives will have no say in the immigration policies in this country.

Building a fence does not rid our country of millions of illegal immigrants living off of the taxpayers.

True conservatives need to come up with a comprehensive plan that not only stops illegals from entering this country, but also deals with the 12 to 30 million already here.

If true conservatives want a say in the new illegal immigration policies, they need to come up with a plan. Not just spout hot air. The bully approach does not work.

It's called governing. Sometimes governoring requires compromise.

Have you ever wondered why it took so many years for our forefathers to write our constitution?

It's because some folks had to compromise. That's why.
