NEW YORK (AP) A popular hip-hop disc jockey died Saturday after being shot at least 13 times earlier this month, police said.
Carl Blaze, born Carlos Rivera, was shot outside an apartment building near Manhattan's Inwood section on Dec. 7, and his $20,000 diamond chain was stolen, police said. He was taken to Harlem Hospital Center, where he died Saturday.
Blaze, 30, was a DJ for hip-hop and R&B radio station Power 105.1 FM for about three years. He had gained a large fan base by spinning records at clubs and on the air on Friday and Saturday nights.
Power 105.1 FM was holding a tribute for Blaze on Saturday night. The station is owned by Clear Channel Communications.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time," said Josefa Paganuzzi, a Clear Channel spokeswoman.
Police said the investigation into the shooting was ongoing.

My guess is that this DJ failed to properly "promote" somebody's CDs.

RIP Carl
$20,000 chain -- in Harlem? Umm...kinda askin' for trouble, yeah?
Ecclesiastes 9
10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
12 For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

If so, I guess one couldn't say Carl went out in a blaze of glory.
When you leave the block, you should leave the block for good.
I grew up across the bridge from Inwood. Some parts ain't bad, some parts sell crack. A ton of cops and firemen live in the good parts. RIP, Carl
Kinda shakes your faith in the whole hip hop music community. Know what I mean?
I'm sure all his tireless work to help man-kind through "hip-hop" will be sorely missed./sarc
...BTW, isn't that Charlie Rangels district?
Damage to occupied clothing alert.
An unlucky number. Probably would have pulled through with only 12 slugs.
Correct, where the hell was Charlie, he should be there
trying to get this thing under control. His dereliction of duty
is astounding. He is neglecting his duty to his congressional district.
(I could go on, acting like a dumpocrap, but its Christmas Eve, I'll back off.)
lolz
Not popular enough, apparently.
My condolences to his family.
Gee! No police involvement in this shooting where`s the outrage, calling Jessie.
