Article I, Section 5. Each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members, and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business; but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner, and under such penalties as each House may provide.
The Dems could really abuse a rule like that
Good Grief
I hope all the people who wanted the GOP to learn a lesson are really happen now.
"and a majority of each shall constitute a quorum to do business"
So maybe the repubs will have a pair and not do the above hmmmmmmmmm
But she won't be the speaker until after the new Congressmen are all seated in the new house. Until then, Hastert is still the speaker. Therefore it's the old house that decides who will be seated in the new house, right?
I do believe that if she insists on treating republicans this way the sizable minority can and will make her next two years somewhat unpleasant. I forsee daily quorum calls and 10 minutes work completed for every 12 hours in session. Confusing abuse of the opposition with House disipline will not yield her intended results.
