It's called "taqiyya", it means prevention. Robert Spencer and a former Muslim talked about it on some documentary they were in. Not only can they lie to infidels, but they can also lie to family or anyone else if it prevents trouble; if it's the easier way out. That's not much of a guideline since the purpose of lying is usually to find an easy way out.
