There's always chemical gas. The Iranians don't like chemical gas. Historically speaking.

The Strait has been gamed to death. Iran might block the channel with the last tanker to get through,The shipping channel through the Strait is six miles wide. that would be one helluva tanker. C'mon people. Think air superiority enhanced to air supremacy in a few hours. Nothing bigger than a rowboat would survive by sundown of the first day. Minesweepers out the next morning, Safe to do their job since every missile and artillery battery on the "2000 km Coast" has had its global coordinates entered into fire control computers long since, including alternate firing positions.

The strait at its narrowest is 21 miles wide [1], having two 1-mile-wide channels for marine traffic separated by a 2-mile-wide buffer zone [2], and is the only sea passage to the open ocean for large areas of the petroleum exporting Persian Gulf States. Some 20 percent of the world's oil supply passes through the strait every day.[3]. This is roughly 25 percent of the worlds daily oil production. [4]

Iran's Doctrine of Asymmetric Naval Warfare The rich man's solution to the poor man's asymmetric war is the MOAB. MOAB's are cheap and awesome. In a way they are Biblical. They are a Christian's means for delivering his wrath

There are two (or soon will be) two CGs in that pond.

There are two (or soon will be) two CGs in that pond. That's my understanding, too. One has been IN that pond, and the second one was ordered into it just recently.
In the past, our Navy never put CGs in there, but that has changed for some time.
My opinion? They should NEVER be IN THAT POND.
The Straits have 2 narrow shipping channels.

Quick air supremacy will be more difficult with the carrier task fleets sunk.

The experience taught Iran that large naval vessels are vulnerable to air and missile attacksVulnerable to air attacks.......Okay, so they grasped a concept everybody else learned in WWII. Good job guys; it only took you about 70 years to grasp that idea.
I suppose that is called 'progress' in the Islamic world.
To: hinckley buzzard
Think air superiority enhanced to air supremacy in a few hours.Iraq had what, a couple hundred fighters they never bothered to put up in the first Gulf War?
To: RightWhale
Quick air supremacy will be more difficult with the carrier task fleets sunk.Such a thing would only be accomplished through severe blundering, and total surprise. Yes, yes, I know that happened at Pearl Harbor.
To: He Rides A White Horse
My cousin is on one of those carrier task fleets and knowing her she wouldn't let a sunburst missile get close enough to endanger the hood.

Well, you are right about the media, but I was talking in military terms only. If anyone is on the ball, there is no reason given the latest technology that any Iranian vessel should get close enough to do any damage. If damage is done, let's pray for someone in charge with a set to end the alleged Iranian navy for once and all, plus as many other military assets as possible.

To ensure that it can achieve surprise in the event of a crisis or war, Irans naval forces keep U.S. warships in the region under close visual, acoustic, and radar observation. The Iranian navy commanderRear Adm. Sajad Kouchaki, one of the architects of the countrys naval doctrinerecently claimed that Iranian submarines continually monitor U.S. naval movements, frequently at close range, and have even passed underneath American aircraft carriers and other warships undetected.I doubt this.
The performance of Lebanese Hizballah guerrillas, who used similar tactics against much larger and more powerful Israeli ground forces in southern Lebanon last summer, provides some insight into what the U.S. Navy should expect in the event of a confrontation with Iran in the Persian Gulf.
There are no civilian populations to hide behind on the high seas. Good luck.

I appreciate the response to post 49 although it is part of a different subthread about something entirely different.

OK RightWhale, let me go through the thread again.

I've always advocating total war against IranIf one is not prepared to wage total war, then one may as well not bother to show up.
To: Alas Babylon!
Iran, likely target that it may become, is the focus of much scrutiny and planned countermeasures.Shoot, we folks who sit up all day planning invasions and battles against every conceivable entity. Even Disneyland, I'll bet.

I went through the thread again, and I don't see where my post was irrelevant.
