Swift Raids Unacceptable [Iowa upset that illegal aliens were arrested]
Immigration Daily ^ | 12/20/2006 | JENNIFER JACOBS

Posted on 12/21/2006 6:30:27 AM PST by doc30

According to a Des Moines Register news story, "In a blunt and stinging letter, the governor and the top officer of the Iowa National Guard on Tuesday called federal immigration officials' actions in the Swift raids "completely unacceptable," saying agents undermined the public's trust in government, potentially jeopardized the safety of law enforcement personnel in Iowa and could have compromised undercover operations." "Lots of smoke, but not much fire."

More like smoke and mirrors. Until this happens 24/7 (which it could) I'm not buying it.

The latest this morning is state law enforcement is whining that their own undercover investigation was impaired by the Feds.

So the state "investigation" was plodding along, getting milked for years worth of taxpayer funded paychecks when ICE showed up and did their job. Just what was a State agency going to do? (or has ever done?). Sound like whining over the gravy train getting defunded cause the feds beat them to it.

Can't arrest the executives. Under the current law, they used the Basic Pilot program and found that the applicant's name and SSN numbers matched. That is sufficeint to prove the company did not knowingly hire illegals. IMHO, the law needs to be changed.

This Iowan isn't upset by the arrests, but I've heard that they had a 'heads-up' that this was coming and hundreds avoided getting caught and that's upsetting!
I also recall something about Vilsak making Iowa more easily accessable to what amounts to illegals a few years back too...any other Iowans remember any of the details??
