Like "Death", for example.

Every college has "gut courses" that exist to bring up the old GPA.

Music under consideration includes works by Schubert and Holly Near, Britten and Cole Porter, and Pussy Tourette.

No Culture Club or Dead Or Alive?

I once helped a lesbian friend of mine move - she was playing some Holly Near when I arrived. Yeesh, was that some awful crap! (This same friend also loved the Ramones - go figure!)

Pussy Tourette?

Her sister got the role in that early Bond flick because she was able to restrain herself from suddenly spewing obscene words and phrases:

A couple of these don't appear to be very strange at all. I teach a course called "Leadership Studies in Popular Film."

Man am I glad most of my courses somehow contained the word electron in the title.

A lot of these title seems like legitimate rhetorical analysis subjects. It's good to break down the rhetoic that's used inside and outside college campuses and see what, if anything, is actually behind it. Of course, you have to go to one of these classes expecting to be the "reactionary" in the group.

I think the title of the article overstates the content.

How these lame brain professors got there in the first place is a question. Now they hire only more like themselves. Goodbye, universities.

It's no mystery.
They hid in the universities during Vietnam, while Conservative patriots went to fight .....
Then , as you say they just hired more of their own.

We need to return to the simple, wise ways of the 18th century university in which the students paid the professors directly"

Personally, I believe there is a market for people who actually want an education as buyers and for people capable of assisting that as sellers.

Now, the market for that is much much much smaller than the market for people who want to buy their way into a society by purchasing a degree. That market will always be larger. Much larger and that is what happens at colleges and universities nowadays. They are basically multi year resorts, where you can bandy about a few left wing solipsisms and then get your passport into high society. All for only $200,000 or so.

Sadly, that is what most people are looking for.

But in a country of 300 million, I think there are a few thousand young people who just want to be educated and are willing to pay modestly for it. The interesting thing, as you point out, though, is that a prof who teaches a handful of students for knowledge sake, could actually make decent money if he can figure out how to recruit a few students. Cut out overhead and this model becomes viable, at least for a few teachers out there.

Cornell University’s Cyberfeminism investigates “the emergence of cyberfeminism in theory and art in the context of feminism/post feminism and the accelerated technological developments of the last thirty years of the twentieth century.”

Oddly the person teaching Cornell's entry above isn't to be found on the university's website....

I like some "worthless" historical info.

That is one course I might enjoy. I once wrote a 10,000 word paper on the origin of common current American wedding customs.

Deep nah? But the research was quite fun.

Interesting—Obama’s first collegegiate stop after High School in Hawaii, before transferring to Columbia, was Occidental College.

1. Occidental College’s The Phallus covers a broad study on the relation “between the phallus and the penis, the meaning of the phallus, phallologocentrism, the lesbian phallus, the Jewish phallus, the Latino phallus, and the relation of the phallus and fetishism.”

5. Occidental College—making the list twice for the second year in a row—offers Blackness, which elaborates on a “new blackness,” “critical blackness,” “post-blackness,” and an “unforgivable blackness,” which all combine to create a “feminist New Black Man.”
