"Grandfathers Frost", we await you!
In our first winter issue we invited all who wished to take part to become magicians out of a fairy tale, and make the wishes of these orphans come true. More than fifty children wrote Grandfather Frost, and any adult who wishes can participate by preparing a gift. Two weeks after the campaign began, our editorial offices have started looking like a toy store. Here there are huge plush toys, dolls, board games, children's clothing and cosmetics awaiting their little masters. There are also some surprises, as well as a few very expensive things. What exactly these will be, we will not say for now. Playing the magical old man's role with gusto were representatives of local firms, as well as average Karaganda residents. Standing in formation among the rows of Grandfather Frosts, we found a Santa Claus - Carl S_____ in the USA sent the orphans his present via an acquaintance here in Karaganda. For now, the children wait impatiently for the arrival of Grandfather Frost. "You are the best grandfather in the world!" reported one of the girls in her letter. "I can hardly wait to meet you," added her little comrade.
Read the whole list! WHO STILL NEEDS A PRESENT * "Hello, Grandfather Frost! Marina Grosheva writes to you. I'm in 5th grade, and I'm 11 years old. I've been in the Children's Home for 7 years. I like it here. I'm doing well in school, and I love to practice acrobatics and dances. I love to sing. Our group often makes a discotheque, and we invite the children from other groups, and we have a lot of fun. The only problem is that our tape player is so small. I want a present for all the girls, but I don't want anyone to know. I hope that Grandfather Frost can give us big, beautiful tape player. I can hardly wait!" Such a present is just what Kristina Tereyaeva, Sasha Sidun, Lesha Shishkov, Shura Totmina, and Mitya Vrublevsky are dreaming about. * Slava Kayukov hopes that Grandfather Frost gets him an electric train set. * Misha Medvedkin wants a real soccer ball. * Meyram Ivadilda dreams of two presents: a chess set and a Batman set * Yerzhan Maltsev asks for a toy helicopter. * Sasha Agzamov requests a remote-control fire engine * But a little girld named Aiganai, who has no last name, wished to receive a very practical present - "good books in the Kazakh language, and a briefcase".

A follow up to
"No one ever gave me presents before"
'Grandfather Frost' (
Ded Moroz) is the Russian version of Santa Claus, and Slavic tradition is generally to give presents on New Year's, since Orthodox Christmas falls on January 15th.

I have a great grand child too but he's only 1 year old, some day I'll have a cup with "Worlds Greatest Great Grand Father" on it.
Why, yes as a matter of fact. I do have a picture of him:

In the Greek Orthodox calendar, St. Basil's feastday is January 1. I was once in Greece on New Year's Eve and saw St. Basil giving toys to children. He looked remarkably like Santa Claus.

Awwwwwwww! Need a babysitter? :)
I don't have any grandchildren yet, but a friend of mine lets me babysit hers once in awhile. They are so adorable!
Oh, what a cutie pie! :)
