A transgendered woman who was told to use the men's room at Loehmann's has filed a complaint alleging discrimination by the discount retail chain.
Jane Galla, who describes herself as a regular Loehmann's shopper, says in a complaint filed Dec. 1 with the city Commission on Human Rights and announced yesterday that she was denied access to the Chelsea store's fitting rooms and rest rooms.
"I felt humiliated when I was publicly told to use the men's fitting room" in April, the woman said through a statement from the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund. "I've been living as a woman for 3-1/2 years and can no longer use a men's fitting room."
A commission official noted the city's human rights law was amended in 2002 to cover individuals in a "gender identity class" but had no comment on the complaint.
Loehmann's was founded in Brooklyn in 1921 by Freida Loehmann, a legendary figure in retailing who bought from Seventh Ave. designers, paying below wholesale prices in cash.
The store's corporate offices in the Bronx had no comment on the complaint.
"regular" ??????
Now there's a group to send a nice donation to.
(sarcasm off)
Another case of denying access of a pervert seeking sexual gratification. This is clearly a violation of its civil rights. Why are these sickos allowed steroid injections and athletes are denied same? The sickos genitally mutilate themselves and receive steroid injections to alter their hormonal balance while seeking sexual gratification. Athletes wish to enhance their sports performance and are prosecuted. Go figure.
Frivolous lawsuit alert.
If I remember right, this store has one big dressing room for the men, and one big dressing room for the women. No privacy. In any case, why should (real) women have to be exposed to this guy while they are trying on clothes? Shouldn't their privacy needs, the privacy rights of the majority, come first?
An interesting question. I'll ask Janet Reno when she gets back in town.
;-)
Real women have rights too.
You're right. This "person" should try on her/his/its clothes out in the street...... behind the dumpster.
(jmo)
Way back in the sixties (surprise!) there was a move to free all psychotics from mental institutions because the institutions "violated their rights." Now - predictably - those very same psychotics camp out on city streets and sleep over steam grates and use the public ways for rest rooms. Others - and this article highlights a case in point - actually demand that the public share their psychoses, and exploits an utterly corrupt tort system when the public refuses to do so. Welcome to the modern world, and thank you Baby Boomers and weak sister apologists.
It took me awhile in reading to determine the real gender of this guy. Transgenders build their castles in the air and try to move into them and insist that everyone else not notice it has no foundation. But it is ridiculous when the press, supposedly famed for its factual reporting, also moves in to the fantasy castle by referring to him as a "woman", as "her" or "she".
Loehmann's has "group" fitting rooms, there are no individual cubicles for the more modest to change.
One reason I have never shopped at Loehmann's.
Right on.
Princeton Professor Peter (needs one) Singer is another of these Pervs.
****
Great screen name you have there!
;-)
The critical issue is whether, as we used to say about customized cars, he/she/it was "chopped and channeled".
Ouch ....... and lol.
I remember back in the 1960's when Phyllis Schlafly said that if the ERA passed we would soon have unisex restrooms. Feminists mocked her prediction. Ironically, the ERA didn't pass and the activists and judges have put males in women's restrooms anyway.
Women should sue over the violation of their privacy rights. The trouble is, we can't always know who is the restroom with us, and no one is out there, eager to pay our legal fees for a test case.
they are a special interest no? they are of special interest for sure.
