Disdain of women seems to be a commonality with backwards culture. Mid East, Ancient (and some times modern Japan), Meso-American culture, and now the extremist Jews.Disdain is born from fear that they cannot control their women.

That seems to be the case. The best solution is to empower the moderns and bring thenm into the 21st century. Let them no men don't go around banging women's head in and dragging them back to the cave.
