Skadar, 16:34

FBI agents in cooperation with Albanian authorities are investigating eventual smuggling of radioactive material deemed to have been planned for using in terrorist attacks across Europe.

Citing sources from the Prosecution Office, the Albanian media reported there are grounds for suspicions that 170 kilograms of radioactive material was brought in the country.

According to the same sources, the illegal shipment was planned to serve for the purposes of carrying out terrorist attacks in Western Europe.

FBI agents have taken in five suspects, including three Albanian police officers and two residents of Skadar. After questioning, they have been released .

It would be helpful to know exactly what material is involved. Is it fissile? An alpha, beta or gamma emitter? What is the activity?

This drives detection strategies and protective actions.

Couldn't be anywhere near that amount of Polonium 210 (170 kilograms).

The Albanian Muslim Mafia, good friends and colleagues of bill clinton. No doubt hillary will be back into business with them if she manages to get elected. Five percent of the drug smuggling profits, and all that.

Somebody remind me why, after six years in office, President Bush hasn't done a damned thing to reverse the damage clinton caused in Yugoslavia? Hasn't even admitted that somebody might have made a mistake?

I'm not knocking everything that President Bush has done. But it's inconceivable that he has made so little effort to broom out the federal bureaucracy. If the Democrats get back in power, you can be sure they won't hesitate.

Bush himself has suffered because he has left traitors in the CIA and the FBI. They continually leak to the press and do everything they can to damage the Republicans. George Tenet did more damage to Bush over Iraq than Pinch Sulzberger.

I used to be much worse in Albania before they ran off the worst of the criminals...

...who crossed the border into Kosovo and got NATO to be their Air Force to help them try to steal the land from its rightful owners.

I would wager Polonium 210.

I'll take as much of that wager as you want and give you some very nice odds to boot. 170 KG is about 375 LBS. I doubt that 375 of Polonium 210 has ever been produced in the history of man. Do you have any idea how HOT that much Polonium 210 would be?

And the KLA have a dream of an independent terrorist supporting Kosovo i.e. the greater Albania. Would not surprise me if this radio active material is smuggled out through Kosovo. Let the Serbs deal with the KLA....

It's a given that since the borders are porous, and the routes have been used for decades, it only makes sense. You could smuggle an elephant from Russia to Italy....:)) Bribery also works very well...for both K-Albanians, Macedonians and Internationals......

Somewhere around, what, 4,500 curies/gram? No container could hold that much Po, it would melt down.

Worldwide production of Po210 is about 100 grams per year.

Very hot stuff indeed.

My bet is it is some low-grade processed uranium ore, yellowcake or something similar.

That sounds about right.

My money is on low grade medical waste or cobalt rods.

Yawn....
