Katie Couric admits that her new gig as anchor of the CBS Evening News has been "a little harder than I thought it would be."
"Some people out there are rooting for me to fail," Couric, 49, tells Esquire in its January issue. "You have to be unwavering in your convictions that you're doing something good, because there are a lot of circling vultures that will eat you alive."
Couric points out that Esquire itself criticized her after her Sept. 5 debut. "You guys even take a shot at me," she tells the magazine. "You have something in the November issue, something about how since I've become an anchor, you don't know me anymore. You don't know me anymore? Bite me."

BTW, I've heard that vultures, like owls, vomit up fur and bones but, unlike owls, it doesn't come out as a neatly packed pellet. It's more of a projectile spew preceding by a violent head shake. I've never studied vultures but they seem fascinating in a kind of macabre way.
Yes Katie, I waiting for and hoping for your failure as a news reader. Just payback for all the biased news you have broadcast during your entire career. I wish you would just go quietly but you won't.
Couric quit building yourself up. We Republican Vultures, can't wait until all the evening news tv spins, dies, and falls into the trash bin of worthless history.
Evening News Viewership, All Networks Harry, the Evening News Semi Corpses are barely quivering now. Lets go eat their eyeballs for an appetizer. have Rump of Rather as the entree with a beak of Katie ala mode for dessert.
PS KATIE, WE AREN'T CIRCLING! WE ARE PERCHED AND WAITING FOR YOUR RATINGS TO REALLY DROP.
Does anyone know the real story behind this picture...what's she really tearing up at? Thanks!
A lot of the vultures are CBS and NBC insiders, dying to see her flop.
"A lot of the vultures are CBS and NBC insiders, dying to see her flop."
You can bet the farm on that. She has a lot of enemies at her former house of ill repute and her current one.
I want the news -- Plan and simple -- not a do-gooder. Katie's, "Doing something good," means she slants the news a a very biased way and we are supposed to see that as good. Sooner or later, a news org will discover they will gain huge ratings if they stop slanting the news to suite their world view.
Vultures? She's in the news business and complaining about vultures? Signed, A Former Vulture.
"Some people out there are rooting for me to fail,"
Count me in on that Katie.
You Suck.
Elizabeth Vargas was the solo anchor of ABC World News and did just fine; not all this drama and hyperbole.
I love how MSM hacks and shameless Demagogues think that THEY alone should be above the fray -- they smear and jeer and slime everyone who is the least bit conservative, yet they are outraged when any criticism comes back at them. Katie, if you can'd stand the heat then get the hell out of the kitchen....
Katie's mixed up about who's the vulture.
