I think that we need to take a look at the difference between negotiation and capitulation. I see no harm in negotiating on things like the budget. I see great harm in capitulating on foreign policy and the war on terror.

Democrats have lost my trust with their behavior. I cannot forsee them getting it back in my lifetime.

...and many 'reasonable' rank and file democrats agree with you...the 'rats are not to be trusted with foreign policy or national security.

The liberals should stick to interior design, acting, music, sculpture and painting, fashion design, etc.

You really said it all, it's tough to negotiate with a party that is totally untrustworthy,they rarely agree to anything that does not have a carrot/stick approach.
