Did Time really name Gorbachev Man of the Decade of the 1980s? He didn't became the leader of the Soviet Union until 1985.

Ronald Reagan was the Man of the Decade of the 1980s. If Time felt it should name multiple people, the most influential people of the decade of the 1980s were Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Lech Walesa, and Maggie Thatcher. Gorbachev falls into "1980s Tier 2", with Mulroney, Kohl, Mitterrand, and others.

He was not only Man of the Year,

But Man of the Decade.

I think it is safe to say who the publishers of Time worship.
