Saturday Shows for December 16th, 2006

Below are the topics and guests announced for these programs, along with my take on the "memes" that the shows are trying to push.  With each guest's name are a series of links that I found in a web search that helped me get a handle on who they are and what their likely positions will be when they are interviewed.

The Beltway Boys (Mort Kondrake, Fred Barnes)

CNBC's Tim Russert Show (Tim Russert)

Fox News Watch (Eric Burns)

Journal Editorial Report (Paul Gigot) - FNC show page

Thanks, as usual, Phsstpok. Not sure I'll be able to be on much tomorrow but I'll try.

The Weekend Talk Show Preview Thread is up

If you want on or off my ping list please Freepmail me

It will be cross posted to my blog at

http://wizards.townhall.com/

Here's a sample of  my usual witty commentary...

We've now moved on from the DOA Iraq Survey Group report.  Despite the best efforts last week of the dinosaur media (better known in my posts as the DBM) to prop up the rather lame attempt at "peace in our time diplomacy" it just didn't gain any traction at all.  The central idea that we are not capable of winning and that we must cede Israel's future to the Jihadists as a blood offering, the way Chamberlain ceded Sudetenland to Hitler, was just too obviously sleazy and low...

... The theme this week, if there is one, is "huh?"  They don't know where they are or what's happening and they're groping about for a stance they can get behind.  I wonder if anyone will ask if they might have misunderestimated the President, yet again?

Talk about unfair and unbalanced. Did anyone ever tell these networks there are 100 Senators and many more congress critters?

Looks like we have the back stabber powell, the swimmer kennedy, dingy harry and one decent person - Newt Gingrich. Looks like a left leaning lineup once again. No thanks, I'll be in Church instead.

James Baker and Lee Hamilton are forever tainted by this and everything they ever did will be viewed through the lens of this nasty capitulation to evil

This is absolutely true. What I have been scratching my head over since the ISG Report appeared is why James Baker, an intelligent man to all appearances, would have his name attached to this contemptible exercise.

Heard Bob Scheiffer on the radio this morning. Spent the entire time bashing Rumsfeld. Interesting convesation to say the least. He's known Rumsfeld for 35 years and has NEVER agreed with him. Insisted it was incredible and inexplicable that Rumsfeld would question why the media never discusses the positive things going on in Iraq. That they are supposed to be reporting the failures.

When asked if Rumsfeld would be on the show sitting for an interview he said that Rumsfeld hasn't been available to go on the show for a year but that he was having Colin Powell on this Sunday.

You are so right. It's more piling on the President.

Scheiffer also said the best part of the ISG was their characterization of the dire situation in Iraq was the only part with which he agreed.

Since this man has disagreed with Rumsfeld for 35 years, how does he profess to be a journalist without a bias.

Silly questions, I know.

If Tim Johnson is clinically brain dead you can bet that Harry will describe him as "calm and stable."

But if we're talkin' brain dead, what's his excuse for Ted Kennedy?

Here is a fairly long, and I think, thoughtful piece by Charles Krauthammer about Iraq and the situation in the world generally which I had not seen posted, although I may have just missed it:

He does not think our goose is cooked, but he does think we are at a crossroads, and with that I agree.

Looks like Kennedy plans to unveil his plan for socialized medicine -- just what we need (not)... I'm really starting to dread the next two years.

My fear is he has been so tainted by his business dealing with the Saudi's and other Arabs that he really believes what he is saying in and about the report.

I don't think Baker believes the report makes any real
sense. He's been bought.

Just for fun, I looked at the About Us section of the American Prospect. Here's a taste"

"Our mission, simply put, is to rise to the momentous occasion that confronts all Americans who seek a just society built on our greatest traditions. Contemporary conservatism stands to thwart those traditions; it advances its agenda by way of stealth, fear-mongering, and a massive propaganda apparatus. It is our mission to expose that agenda and the lies that support it."

Tell me which of our "greatest traditions" conservatives want to thwart...gay marriage, socialized medicine...those traditions.
