My first job in 1958 was with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in New York City. They hired part time workers from the high schools and then kept them on when they graduated. Lots of them were black.

The next job I got fired from.

Job number 3 was with a textile company who had two black "mail boys" who were in their 70's. One had a daughter who was a doctor.

Number 4 was with a Southern based steamship company. They had just hired their first Black Captain and it was funny to hear them rave about how good he was.

Last job was with an airline. Lots of Blacks as mechanics, office people, cargo operators. Some of the mechanics had been hired in the 1940's. There were no Black flight attendants or pilots until around 1968 or so.
It could have been earlier than 1968 but I'm not sure.
