While the writer makes an error (Brenda Lee did "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree) and puts too much emphasis on how "young" the escort is, the article just brings home how much we owe those who stand guard so we can be in the land of the free.

I'm crying like a baby. This does bring it home so very graphically. God bless all the brave men and women who serve our nation. They are the other Greatest Generation.

Excellent article. This paper also did a wonderful piece on Veteran's Day, 2005 about a Marine Casualty Officer.
Sometimes, actually a lot lately, I think that this country no longer deserves these brave men and women.

A debt is owed that we can never repay.
I can't call myself a man after reading this.

This line got to me:
"You know," he said, "sometimes I wish they would do this for us when we come home alive."
And he's right. We need to honor the men and women who serve our country when they come home alive too.
A couple of years ago my son met a young man in the Air Force in full uniform for the first time at church - someone's som was home for a visit and went to services in full dress uniform. My son was 4 at the time. The young man explained to him that he was in the Air Force, that he flew jet fighters, and that he had just gotten back from Iraq.
My son looked at him and yelled at me "Mom, superheroes are TOO real - there's one right here."
I think it made the guys day.

thanks for posting this.
it's great to see how many Americans truly support our troops, despite the impression given in the MSM.

Navy Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class John Dragneff walks down the conveyor belt after helping secure the casket of Christopher Anderson at Denver International Airport. "Even though we're best friends, this isn't for me," Dragneff said. "This is for the family." Anderson was killed Dec. 4 in Iraq.

"You know," he said, "sometimes I wish they would do this for us when we come home alive." I totally agree and plan to make a huge fuss next month when my baby brother comes home from Balad. He is my hero. When I read stories like this one I can't help but think how I would feel if the article was about my brother. They all deserve more thanks than we can express.

Nan, I never liked the Navy, though my dad was a LT J G, and I hate the Marines, though an uncle, one of my best friends, and Texas Cowboy served with them. That said, losing one takes all the fun out of kidding them.
I have work to do this morning, if I can just get this damn water out of my eyes.
God Bless them all.
