Alouette, correct me if I am wrong. I have heard,or read that scriptural reference to Chanakah is contained only in the Catholic editions of the Old and New Testaments. As I understand it,neither nonCatholic nor Hebrew written scripture cover the reason for the season (so to speak). However, netmilsmom, you can find the whole story in one of the books of Maccabees,I can't remember chapter and verse, being Catholic,ya know.(wink)

The Book of the Maccabees is not included as part of the Tanakh, which was compiled by the Great Synod at the end of the Babylonian Exile. The Book of Maccabees was written later and is therefore not included.

The Catholic Old Testament contains the Apocryphal Books which are not part of Tanakh but bridge the gap between the conclusion of Tanakh and the New Testament.
