This is a good read by a former Reagan staffer concerning the lack of any substance on the part of Barak, and some of the reasons why this matters.

Hmmm, no mention of Mr. Rezko that I could find. . . my temptation was to mention a Freeper name version, Baracketeer Obama. But I won't.. oops!

I am a fair man and here's proof, Hollywood idle Clark Gable had big ears too.

Yeah, here we go people only like him because he's slick Willy 2. It doesn't matter that he has no platform. But he talks slick and blows sweet nothings into your liberal/moderate ears.
Remind you of a particular under performing governor of a backwoods state?

I read the whole piece and this was Peggy lite. Ramblings of littleness surrounded by remember when with Ronnie.

Peggy sometimes needs less perfume and more honesty.

Yes , honesty, she knows the rosy wording of talk around is
not how you or I talk on the corner. We make our point.

Lastly, I trust her republicanism but,she like George Will begin to disappoint more than than satisfy. Odd.

Oprah has decided that Barack Obama should be President.

Let Oprah say it; let it be done.

Reading Noonan is effortless, like that second glass of wine. As to the substance of her piece...would the phrase, "empty suit" be a mischaracterization of Barack Hussein Obama? I think not.

What does Barack Obama believe in?

How's the following for a clue?

2005 (and lifetime) rating, (leftist) Americans for Democratic Action: 100%

2005 (and lifetime) rating, (conservative) American Conservative Union: 8%

The prosecution rests.

All I can think of is "The Cult of Personality" by Living Colour.
Look into my eyes, what do you see?
Cult of personality
I know your anger, I know your dreams
I've been everything you want to be
Im the cult of personality
Like mussolini and kennedy
Im the cult of personality
Cult of personality
Cult of personality

Neon lights, a nobel prize
The mirror speaks, the reflection lies
You dont have to follow me
Only you can set me free
I sell the things you need to be
Im the smiling face on your t.v.
Im the cult of personality
I exploit you still you love me

I tell you one and one makes three
Im the cult of personality
Like joseph stalin and gandi
Im the cult of personality
Cult of personality
Cult of personality

Neon lights a nobel prize
A leader speaks, that leader dies
You dont have to follow me
Only you can set you free

You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You me power in your gods name
Im every person you need to be
Im the cult of personality

There is a simple test for intellectual and moral seriousness in politicians. That is whether they address seriously the hard questions of the day or run from them. Right now, those questions would include Iraq and the broader issues of Islamic terrorism and, on the domestic side, entitlement and education reform. A candidate doesn't have to agree with me to earn my respect, but he does have to take the issues seriously.

President Bush has grabbed the hard issues and is paying a political price for it, but he is a morally serious man and has my deep respect for his efforts. I hope our candidate in 2008 will be equally serious. I do not see a single national democrat today with the courage or integrity to even step up to the plate, and therein lies the danger to the nation. In a closely divided nation, the Other Party refuses to engage the issues that count.

One way to interpret Noonan's article is to say that Obama has all the hallmarks of a demagogue. He is a charismatic, self-seeking politician whose charms could blind the electorate to his liberalism and his bad policy ideas. (I'm not saying that all demagogues are liberal only that Obama is.) The bottom line is that he is someone who will pander to voters and use his likability to get elected. Which, of course, is what Clinton did.

Bill Clinton was similarly unknown, and similarly charming.

Clinton realized that he could treat the electorate like a woman he was trying to seduce. Obama sounds like the same sort of fellow.
