The subject matter is also important because this particular solar flare can impact U.S. commerce via impacted electrical grids, radio communications, orbiting satellites, etc.
Two of the Discovery astronauts working outside the International Space Station were hit with a substantial dose of X radiation before they could take shelter in the Space Station.
