McCain Inc.? (The New Republican Hope?)
Washington Post ^ | 14 December 2006 | Robert D. Novak

Posted on 12/14/2006 7:54:50 AM PST by shrinkermd

Some 30 invited corporate representatives and other lobbyists gathered at the Phoenix Park Hotel on Capitol Hill Tuesday morning to hear two senior mainstream Republican senators pitch the 2008 presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain. They were selling him to establishment Republicans as the establishment's candidate. Nothing could be further from McCain's guerrilla-style presidential run in 2000, which nearly stopped George W. Bush.

Invitations to Tuesday's event were sent by Trent Lott, the newly elected Senate minority whip. Over coffee, Lott and Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) pushed McCain, though neither previously was seen as a McCainiac. They were not for McCain in 2000, and neither were the assembled party activists.

It is beginning to look like "McCain Inc." -- that is, party regulars, corporate officials and Washington lawyers and lobbyists moving toward John McCain, the man they feared and loathed eight years ago. The GOP, abhorring competition and detesting surprises, likes to establish its presidential nominee well in advance.

God help us.

Indeed. This maniac would use the Constitution for toilet paper if a roll of Charmin' weren't readily handy.
The 1st Amendment is his latest windmill.

McPain is the Howard Dean of the republican RINO party, with a little John Kerry mixed in. (flip flop, flip flop, I'm a veteran, flip flop)

Yes he can, that is if the DUMB ASS Repubs who did not vote in November come out against Marxism in the White House. He also can send Hitlery down in flames if he runs his campaign to show her for what she really is. But McCain cannot run as a moderate -- that loses elections. When the Repubs run as conservatives, they win. Every time. Hitlery's radical base will not let her go to the right --- which IMHO, she will try to do. The Repubs have alot of work to do to get back to conservatism and what is RIGHT FOR AMERICA AND THE WILL OF ITS PEOPLE.

Voting Mcpain IS electing a RAT, so what's the difference?

A rat like Pelosi or a rat like Zell? Yeah, there's a difference.

McCain is not my kind of candidate and I will not support him in my primary vote, but if nominated then yes. The alternative is not an option.

It's a shame but people seem to be settling on this 'name recognition' when Duncan Hunter is in the race. It's an uphill battle but I hope people will realize other options than McCain or the other mentioned nominees.

"Please....We must all get on either the Rudy or McLame bandwagon, and we must do it quickly. We Americans must finish the job of destroying America, and elect a Rudy or McLame. It's the wrong thing to do, but who cares?"

I disagree with you. I believe both candidates would be good POTUS's especially Rudy. I probably would not like some of Rudy's liberal policies such as pro-choice but we are on the pinnacle of world war in the next few years. We will need someone with balls galore.

McInsane. The New Republican GOP/Media Hype.

Anti-Second Amendment. Anti-free speech. Anti-free markets. Pro-bigger government.

Don't need another RINO stinkin' up the line up.

Obviously because you have never read the Constitution and would prefer to piss away what little protections for our Rights we have.

Or is there another reason we should be so self deluded as to vote for yet another RINO? It hasn't worked so far, so what? We give it one more try?

How do you "come out against Marxism", then vote for a RINO like McLame? Isn't that kind of contradictory?

Right now we should all be contacting our local Senators and telling them just how we feel. We have to stay on top of this.

I have to strongly disagree with you. In politics if you don't win you can just take your principles home they are meaningless. McCain is enough of a conservative that he can certainly do a better job than Bush or the liberal Guiliani. Romney is a real long shot. If you don't win the presidency then you no longer have the seat of power. The forces of Obama and Hillary I believe with come together as the Presidential and VP nominees for the Demoncrats. That will be a formidable ship to sink. We need our biggest battleship to take down that ship. That is McCain my friend that is McCain!!

Of course you pray for a candidate that represents good conservative principles.

But if and when the primary is over and you are stuck with the lesser of two evils, what are you going to do?

When the election comes down to a choice between a RINO and a DEMO, what do you do?

You have three choices:

1) Vote for the greater of two evils,

2) Vote for the lesser of two evils, or

3) Don't vote and allow the greater of two evils to win.

It is not being a defeatist to admit that there is no other option.

I am an idealist, but I don't ignore reality.

How about, just for a change, we vote for someone who isn't evil? I know... it's a tough thing to contemplate... but we're strong. We can handle it...
