Here in Western Pa and mid december and it is in the 60's oh are we going to pay for this...
Interesting stuff...well, I dont know what is doing this to the cloud color, but this may well be it...thanks for the info...
Its just eerie...clouds should not be pink like that...everything looked so bright...it really did bother me...it was, well, ominous...
The Illinois River is way up, but the fields and yards that were badly flooded last year aren't under water - yet.
Fair amount of standing water in the low areas near us, though.
Once again I have a 120ft Doug Fir thats ready to party over my house, I suspect I will not get much sleep tonight
I understand, my honey is here with me too :~)
So do we, about 14 of them within reach of the house. We'll be up too :~\
A survivor of the "Columbus Day Storm" of 1962, I'm hunkered down with lots of firewood, and a gas range. Winds may reach 60 mph in my area (near the Columbia River)later tonight. Terrible news for the three lost on Mt. Hood. Prayers going up for them and for their families. Stay safe, everyone!
I agree, could be a long one. I went and got (more) propane today for my portable heater.
I have to trees that are kinda to the west, one would do major damage if it comes down, but the other one is probably ok. But they haven't come down in the last 15 yrs, so keep my fingers crossed. Had one come down on my shed 3 weeks ago but didn't do any damage cause it hit a bunch of other junk on the way down.
If I were you and had one right in the storm path we usually get around here, I'd get it topped. Or just take it out. They are beautiful and awesome, but ain't worth the risk.
Well I have some last minute Christmas decorating to do, so I figure, I will just put it off until later....I will be too scared to sleep, so I will just decorate...my son is going to be in Switzerland for Christmas, so he is coming down from Seattle on Sunday, for our family Christmas celebration, so I need to get all the decorating done quicker than usual...
I will just decorate, while the winds howl...I can never sleep when the winds kick up...
Whoa...kewl.
(I mean, the region does).
Ohh...
Not to get into a proper tree care debate, but they really don't recommend topping any more, it opens up the tree to disease and rot. They do recommend 'windsailing' ei thinning the larger wind-catching limbs all the way up the tree.
I got propane for heat and a bunch of little Mighty Lite proane lights that fit on the top of camp propane bottles.
An inverter and a couple 12V's that puts out enough for TV and more lights if I want.
Generator in the shed. If it was more than a day or so, I can fire it up to run the fridge and freezer.
So as long as the sky ain't fallin and the roof stays attached, I'm probably ok.
Good luck!
BTW, it's always good to have a medical emergency kit handy. Every time the power takes a hit I end up cuttin myself or stubbin my toe or some other stupid crap.
I felt real sorry for them; he would have lived had he stayed with the wife and kids. City slickers just don't know how remote and dangerous some of the back country is. We drove up that road one summer and decided we wouldn't do it again.
Of course, I'd be a dead duck in the wilds of SF.
Yeah. I have a generator with a full tank, but I don't know how to use it. An old boyfriend got it for me for the ice storms in Portland years ago, but he's gone to his reward, and I haven't a clue how to hook it up to the freezer by myself.
The wind is hardly blowing (well, now that I look out at the treetops it's blowing a bit but not much) with spurts of rain.
BTW, I thought you lived near Grants Pass?
I;'ve got trees on my prop about 80 - 100 ft tall and they're everywhere... I worry about the oaks.)
Make ya a Deal as real rain is hitting the house, I think good thoughts for you if you think good thoughts for me, :*) LOL!
Well, my honey just walked in the door, so at least we can be scared together...he was coming back from Ft. Lewis, and driving southm down to Olympia...he said it was completely blocked up going north, from exit 111 to 120, on I5....he said it was like a parking lot...fortunately the hubby was going south, and it was clear sailing...
Its a mess out there...everyone be careful...
Will do :~) I think when the real wind hits, we're going to go out and sit in our truck and watch from a safe clear spot.
Death by Buggery.
Rather go in the woods nibbled to death by chipmunks.
