George P. is great but he is not the President. The President has done very well with Hispanics in Texas ever since 1994 and now he decides he will not come to the help of a fellow Texas Republican?

Not necessarily...from what I hear the GOP has run away from Pres. Bush...so I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Bonilla told him not to come down..

So..if he loses...tough cookies...all of the GOP politicians that have run away from Pres. Bush over the war aren't worth voting for anyway.

I am sorry to see Bonilla go. Don't know what is going on. How can the people choose Rodriguez over Bonilla.

9:04pm:

Henry Bonilla REP 27,285 44.19%
Ciro D. Rodriguez DEM 34,456 55.81%

Republicans often do poorly in these month-later elections, it's like we just don't have it in us to show up again.

However, it is funny to set up election rules that SEEM to be better (not allowing someone with less than 50% of the vote win an election), but which in fact lead to a person winning the election with even FEWER votes.

It is unlikely the democrat will end up with more votes than Bonilla had in the general election.

I imagine the Democrats outspent the Republicans in this race.

Too bad, no money and no support from the President.

"Some people here are writing this off too early although one election official said that turnout on the far Northwest side (republican precincts in S.A. still left w/in the new boundaries) was surprisingly light. If so, YIKES."

I am in the NW of San Antonio, and I voted early this morning at 7:00 am when the polls opened. I was the only one at the voting booth.

Just said on the news that Bonilla will concede. I'm more than upset about this one. Bonilla was safe until redistricting. It was a tough race because of being right before the holidays and people being too preoccupied with other things. Plus I heard the Dems brought a lot of people in from DC to help Rodriguez's campaign. I'm not sure what the Republicans did for Bonilla.

Stay at home, elect a Dem. Morons.

The dems dumped a million into the race the last week I think. At the minimum.

Major DITTO. Thanks, Tom Delay for helping get W. Texas the shaft AGAIN. Now we lose another effective (South)West Texan representative. Go ahead, FReepers, flame away. I'm going in the kitchen for a 5th Crown & water anyway.

You cannot win a race when you are outspent and I am sure the Democrats spent many times the amount of money that was spent by the Republicans.

1 million dollars can buy a lot of get out the vote. They probably had buses on the south side (Hispanic side) of SA taking people to the polls.

The democrats said that they would have a better chance of winning if it went to runoff and less voters voted in the runoff. I guess they were right. I wonder if he would have won if there had not been a run off.
