President Bush had breakfast with Bob Gates, who will be sworn in Monday as the new Secretary of Defense.

He met with Iraqi Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi in the Oval. Also in the meeting were Dick Cheney, Condi Rice, Stephen Hadley, and White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten. He participated in a video teleconference, that included Donald Rumsfeld, with combatant commanders and the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq.

At the State Department, Secretary of State Rice met with Iraq Vice President Tariq Ahmed Baker Al-Hashimi, and also met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England, Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and Australian Secretary of Defense Brendan Nelson and held a news conference with Downer. Rice witnessed the signing of the Joint Strike Fighter Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. and Australia.

There weren't many photos today, adding to the Quickness Quotient.

A friend Emailed me after I sent her that Sorry puppy and said, "Awwwwwwww! I forgive him!"

MR. SNOW: No, no, no. The President is the Commander-in-Chief; he issues orders.

Yay Tony!!! It's about time someone pointed out this little factoid! Stay tuned for a full frontal assault from the enemedia, as they feel THEY are the ones that issue the orders.

Thanks for the Dose Gretchen. It is good to see Rummy continues to be engaged. It appears that many are moved by Vice President Tariq Al-Hashimi and all he has endured.

I really wish they'd move that portrait to a back hallway somewhere. It creeps me out every time I see it -- like the subject is going to come up behind the people at State and do something unexpected. I suppose the artist was trying to make the guy look amiable and relaxed but the way he's blocking the "exit" it doesn't work for me.

Bravo. We are so fortunate to have Tony Snow as our press secretary.

Lol that's because the MSM thinks they're in charge of EVERYTHING. They still remember the "good ole days" where people actually cared what they thought. It must be tough to be ignored so much.

A portrait? I thought it was reflection in a mirror!

And that's part of my beef about it. We had a big discussion about it on the Dose one night, trying to figure out which it was: portrait or reflection in a mirror. Someone went back to prior Doses and we discovered it's a portrait. The pose is very intimidating to me, and seems especially inappropriate for the State Department, where things are generally done to promote cool tempers and reasonableness.

It must be tough to be ignored so much.

Hmmmmmm, when have they been ignored? They managed the last election to their stated goal.

They have succeeded in getting rid of Rummy and believe that they have now forced the President into a corner regarding Iraq. They are pushing the Iraq Surrender Report like it is the law of the land, rather than the worthless paper it is written on.

There is much work to do my FRiend!

Bravo. We are so fortunate to have Tony Snow as our press secretary.

Couldn't agree more. I have never spent much time thinking about the press secretaries over the years unless I'm watching one of them, but Tony is different. I found myself thanking God yesterday for Tony, and that he accepted this job, and for all his training that led to him being so agile and adept with these media beings. He eats their lunch every day, and yet they find themselves without any real weapons against him other than meaningless insults and snarky tones because he is so adroit at what he does, and so full of goodness.
