Immigration agents investigating ID thefts raid meat processing plants in 6 states (Minnesota too)

Federal agents raided meat processing plants in six states including Minnesota today and arrested an unknown number of suspected illegal immigrants in an identity theft investigation.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said the workers were being arrested on administrative immigration violations and in some cases, existing criminal arrest warrants stemming from a nearly yearlong investigation.

The investigation indicated that large numbers of illegal immigrants may have used the Social Security numbers of U.S. citizens or residents to get jobs with Swift & Co. Immigration officials said they and the Federal Trade Commission had identified hundreds of potential victims.

Six Swift processing facilities were raided Tuesday, in Greeley, Colo.; Grand Island, Neb.; Cactus, Texas; Hyrum, Utah; Marshalltown, Iowa; and Worthington, Minn., representing all of Swift's domestic beef processing capacity and 77 percent of its pork processing capacity.

ONLY because of ID theft, and NOT because of a crackdown on illegals.

The pattern is that it seems that only when OTHER laws are broken do the Fed's act on illegals. The law-breakers are ignored as far as immigration goes, which is quite obvious to all.

Well of course they have and I guarantee that some of those so-called "victims" are anything but.

ID theft is a CRIME. . . Entering and being in the USA without a valid visa is a minor offense and is NOT A CRIME. Why should law enforcement waste its time on a minor offense when we have domestic and foreign terrorism, organized and dis-organized REAL crime?

We need more government agencies that have their priorities straight. Going after 12 million illegals would require a huge BIG GOVERNMENT solution that would raise my taxes at the same time that going after those illegals would destroy both my source of income, and my net worth by pushing the economy into another Smoot-Hawley. We need people who can learn from history... and be aware of the relevant facts, rather than the cliche of the season.

Yes, it is. Why should law enforcement waste its time on a minor offense when we have domestic and foreign terrorism, organized and dis-organized REAL crime?

You just answered your own question.

Here is a November opinion editorial in a Dallas paper. What caught my eye is it says 75% of the population of Cactus, Texas is illegal. That meatpacking plant is the only thing there.

Thanks to Jorg Bush and his whipping boy Carl Roll.

"Going after 12 million illegals would require a huge BIG GOVERNMENT"

Having NOT prosecuted the law-breakers, who are siphoning BILLIONS of taxdollars and growing, IS a big problem.

To selectively enforce laws is to allow law-breaking as a matter of POLICY.

Unless and until the invasion is stopped, the Amercian citizen will continue to support an ever-growing influx of law-breaking invaders, while the weak-kneed appeasers say "it's not a big deal...."

Really?

Title 18. Section 1325. Improper entry by alien

Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

Sounds like it's a crime to illegally enter the U.S. to me.

It is interesting to me that Swifts has been advertising heavily on the radio for employees the last two weeks. I've never heard an ad for that before. I can't say what dots to connect from that but it seems strange.

I think I heard Medved claim that "entering and being in the USA without a valid visa is a minor offense and is NOT A CRIME" yesterday also.

when I heard that I thought, "that's just plain ridiculous!" Glad to see someone post the actual statute, thank you!

The anti-ICE protesters have been out here in Colorado - both in Greeley and in Denver. An Hispanic female in Greeley was whining that "it isn't fair" that they weren't warned of the raid ahead of time. She said "they always told us before!"
I wonder what changed to make them take their jobs seriously for a change?

The use of fake SS#'s is probably more widespread than just this.

And the feds stated that this is not the same as ID theft but rather "using false identities."

I take that to read in bureatcratic BS as not a felony as is ID theft. Supposedly purchasing stolen IDs, using stolen IDs, etc. is now a different category - created just for illegal aliens.

But spintreerob your taxes are going to pay for the illegals already. They sap our infrastructure and pay no taxes back in which shifts the burden to taxpayers like you and I. The only ones who gain in this scenario are the illegals (who live a tax free existence while taking advantage of social services, putting their offspring into our public schools and other benefits) and the people who hire them or take advantage of the slightly cheaper labor at our expense.

While I join your patriotic and admirably conservative stance against big government, we already have a government agency that was formed to deal with this called the Border Patrol and INS.

As a business owner who has to compete against traitors who hire illegals, I am hamstrung on every bid. I don't hire illegals and so I pay taxes, carry insurance, thus my operating expenses are between 16 & 20% higher on every bid. My competitors therefore can come in cheaper than I but they take home the same profit and their illegal employees take home just as much as my legal American workers do.

Illegal aliens are destroying America and our economy.

I notice that people whose jobs are not personally threatened by illegals tend to be either supportive of their presence here or simply ambivilent. Medveds incorrect statement does not surprise me therefore.

My company does not hire illegal filth and many people who claim to be against illegal aliens say they are eager to hire us. When I point out that my price will be a little higher because we pay taxes, carry insurance and play by the rules these same "patriotic" Americans angrily reject my bid and sneeringly point out that I'm being greedy and lazy.

It makes me sad to see our country sold out by people who want their lawn mowed for $5 less.
