We cannot turn right on dee red light, but tabernak, we go right trew dem!

Montreal is a hoot! It's the only city I ever lived in that had a sign on every red light that said "Wait for the green light".

On my first visit to Montreal, back in January '66, my cab-driver struck a pedestrian en route from Victoria Station to the Forum.(I was determined to catch a Habs-Bruins game).

The against-the-red pedestrian scrambled to his feet, brushed the snow off, and continued on his way. The cabbie blew it off, saying it happened all the time! This incident brought to life for me Shakespeare's phrase "the quick and the dead", which perfectly described pedestrians in that wonderful city.
