If the "doom stories" fade away, I'll stop posting them... and I will be very much surprised.
As even some of the other posts on this thread indicate, it is clear that the Earth is warming. While the contribution of human activity has not been fully quantified, this aspect of the science is improving, and it can be qualitatively said with authority that the human contribution to the currently observed climate trends is not negligible. So anthropogenic global warming is not a hoax, as Inhofe has repeatedly claimed. I know he's wrong. The question of concern is the path of warming in the future; merely noticeable, somewhat annoying, disruptive, or catastrophic.
No, he claims castrophic global warming is a hoax. Big difference.
So can you quantify that for us. Is it 5%, 10%, 50% or 100%? I am positive the fear-mongering models assume it is nearly 100% and further assumes some acceleration factors in there for good measure. It is really hard to scare people without some exponentially accelerating factors put in. Do you agree with their assumptions?
In order for it to be any of those things requires the considered opinion of only one lifeform currently residing here, namely man; what some would have would amount to a catastrophe for developing nations and their societies as they would be unable to sustain their numbers, let alone accomodate growth.
Reasonable sacrifice is the best we should attempt and that ain't going to sit well with the jetset crowd when it's their Lear jet that must be grounded.
Cogitator:
The Vostok ice core data show that temperature increases occurred approximately 1,000 years before increases in CO2. Repeatedly, over several glaciations and deglaciations.
This suggests that rising CO2 is an effect, not a cause, of global warming.
How do you reconcile these data with the conjecture of anthopogenic global warming?
Maybe not, but it is bull methane in a Hurricane.
It's like an Astronaut rocking forward in his seat to make the Shuttle go faster.
It is worse than a hoax, because at least a hoax is intentionally believable.
Anyone that feels that humanity should be concerned with Global Warming might just as well be concerned with the Sun going nova.
Isn't that Tipper calling you, Al?
