What's driving Obama-mania?
CS Monitor ^ | Dec 11, 2006 | Gail Russell Chaddock

MANCHESTER, N.H. – With standing room crowds chanting for the star to show, Sunday's Democratic fundraiser could have been a rock concert. But it was only Sen. Barack Obama's first visit to the nation's first primary state.

If Senator Obama should jump into the Democratic presidential primary, where he is now ranked just behind Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York in recent polls, Democrats in the land of retail politics wonder if there's a living room big enough to hold the throngs who'd come to hear him.

"Right now, he's a rock star. Getting 1,500 people out on a Sunday afternoon ... says something different is going on here," says Jim Craig, former Democratic leader in the New Hampshire House.

So what's driving Obama-mania?

It isn't a single set of issues such as the war or the economy. Rather, the attraction seems to be a mix of Obama's own compelling personal narrative and many voters' desire for a less caustic brand of politics.

"It's the sense that you're in the presence of someone who is touched with the gift of grace," says Ross Baker, a political scientist at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. Obama, Illinois' junior senator, exemplifies the hope that there's some way to triumph over the intense polarization of American politics, he adds.

A barely known state lawmaker and community organizer in Chicago, Obama shot to superstar status after an electrifying speech at the 2004 Democratic national convention in Boston. With a father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas, he embodies two racial cultures deeply at odds in American history.

The MSM is driving it with the support of the DNC. They want a high profile black candidate to energize their most loyal constituency. Obama replaces Sharpton and Jesse Jackson as the token black candidate. Richardson is the token Hispanic candidate. Hillary is the real candidate who will get the nomination.

You could be right. Setting him up as Hillary's Veep so know one can laugh about him being an Islamo Dan Quayle.

BINGO!!!

I've been thinking that all along. This sudden media/public love affair with him is just too creepy, and I got a weird vibe about him the first time I heard his name, without even knowing who he was.

Is he a heterosexual? Doesn't the bible say that the antichrist will not "take of the favors of women" or something like that?

The antichrist prophecy also includes mention of a one-world government or something akin to that, which the antichrist is supposed to lead or be a source of a solution to a world problem or some such. I don't think we're close enough to the one-world situation yet for it to happen in his lifetime.

He will pull in 99.5% of the black vote while Her Heinous will pull in most single women and stoopid women.

Hillary will get 90% or more of the black vote regardless of whether Obama is on the ticket or not. Obama will help turnout.

Charisma-challenged white oafs like Gore and Kerry got that percentage of the black vote without even trying. Dems don't need to actually nominate any black candidates - anybody with the D after their name on the ballot gets the black vote automatically. The Obamagasms are all media-generated and will vanish like the snows of a globally-warmed New Hampshire winter.

"Uh, if he wasn't a natural born American he wouldn't be running for President."

"As for being the Anti-Christ... lol, talk about having an active imagination. There is nothing extraordinary about this man."

I really can't believe you took any of that seriously. What I was saying in a sarcastic way was that the media is worshipping him to such an extent that it may be what they are thinking. I guess I will have to start using the (/sarcasm) tag again.

"If he runs against her, that will split the demonCRATS votes."

That's why her team has him their sights, so to speak.

His handlers will no doubt demand the presidency nothing lower.

[ What's driving Obama-mania? ]

The Mania?... is a manic drive to drive out the concept that Obama has a WHITE mother with a non white sperm donor father..

And that Obama deems to call himself BLACK instead of WHITE..
Justifying this Racist impulse drives many manic..

Hi All-

Interesting theory about Barack Hussein Obama being offered the VP spot during the upcoming Hillary! campaign. She could satisfy her obsessive urge to run for the presidency and they could even offer to him that she wouldn't run for reelection in 2012 should they somehow win. She would be sixty-five years of age at that time.

The buzz about Obama has only continued to grow. He was the most requested speaker on the 2006 campaign trail, appearing with candidates in more than 30 states. He has also sold more than 350,000 copies of his second bestseller, "The Audacity of Hope."

Translation ... He's a money maker for the DNC

Thanks to many of the liberals in the media

What's driving Obama-mania?

Lack of any verifiable record on him and the desire by the MSM to deify him?

He's a Christian convert from a previously Muslim family. He's basically the perfect candidate for the times if he's on the up and up. None more perfect if your trying to send up an example to third world people (brown) deciding which side of the fence to fall toward. The biggest conflict in the world today is that which exists between Christianity and unreformed Islam. If Islam ever reformed, atheists and agnostics would be in deep doodoo because Islam and Xians have more in common with each other than with pagans.

You forgot one other thing:

He's also friends and next-door neighbors with indicted Democratic fundraiser Tony Rezko. Check out this story about Obama and Rezko and tell me if there's something shady going on.
