What message, I presume you mean the message that Republicans can't count on conservatives, except to help the Democrats -- so the only option for them, if they want to get back into power is to move more towards the center.

Arnold Schwarzenegger had it right. That's what he is recommending to the Republicans nationally.

Conservatives just abdicated any power they may have had.

(I am not including the SMART conservatives, who did get out and vote Republican -- we have a clear conscience)

In my computer devised Congressional District there wasn't even a Republican candidate to vote for. Don't blame me.

Hastert however didn't seem to be a leader with a vision or a taste to take it to the 'rats. Republicans do seem to need to take a timeout and see just what is is they stand for and then follow through. Based on the lame-duck session just concluded, they certainly failed to demonstrate any change in their collective behavior that would warrant hopes for a better future.
