MI officer: Syria preparing its army for war with Israel

The head of the research division of Military Intelligence, Brigadier General Yossi Baidatz, said Sunday that Syrian President Bashar Assad is preparing for a war with Israel.

He said that Assad has ordered increased production of long-range missiles and instructed the Syrian army to position its anti-tank missiles closer to the Syrian border with Israel, on the Golan Heights.

But, Baidatz told the cabinet, while Assad is "preparing the Syrian army for the possibility of a military conflict with Israel, on the other hand, he is not ruling out the possibility of reaching a political settlement with Israel."

He stressed that in Assad's view, his actions on the military front do not contradict his actions in the political realm.

"Assad is working in two parallel tracks," Baidatz said. "On the one hand he is not ruling out a diplomatic solution with Israel and on the other hand he is preparing his forces for military conflict."

Sure, Assad is arming Syria, while talking -- they learned from N. Korea.

All the Israelis could leave their country, but one, and they'd still want him dead!

The minute Iran has a nuke Israel is finished.

All Israel had for the past 39 years is the illusion that if attacked they would burn their enemies to the ground.

Once Iran has a nuke, Israel becomes neutralized and basically target practice for thousands of incoming missiles, not knowing which one might have the nuke on it.

Israel has maybe, six months.

I wouldn't count the Israelis out so soon.

All they need to do is toss that idiot Ohlmert and find someone who has a pair.

"All they need to do is toss that idiot Ohlmert and find someone who has a pair."

Isn't going to happen so fast. By enabling the French to go into Lebanon, Israel gave up all hope for defeating an enemy from this point forward.

The new Arab strategy will be to put UN forces between Israel and their enemies and the enemies will fire rockets into Israel and then hide among the UN forces.

IMHO the only chance Israel has to protect future generations is to 1) take out Syria now, 2) take out or at the least threaten to make Iran a non-oil producing country and 3) take out Gaza.

Without this, Syria will attack the Golan heights, The hezzies will attack with rockets through Lebanon and the West Bank and Gaza will have an uprising, all the while Iran lays back and prepares its nuke in the event Israel pushes everyone back.

It will either happen in within 6 months or the day after the 2008 election.

The head of the research division of Military Intelligence, Brigadier General Yossi Baidatz, said Sunday that Syrian President Bashar Assad is preparing for a war with Israel... "Assad is working in two parallel tracks," Baidatz said. "On the one hand he is not ruling out a diplomatic solution with Israel and on the other hand he is preparing his forces for military conflict."
There isn't a diplomatic solution, because Syria won't engage in direct talks. The claim is, they'll do it if Israel meets the Syrians' non-negotiable position of relinquishing the Golan Heights. Of course, if Israel does that, Syria won't then have to talk, since it has obtained all that it wants.

The Olmert gov't retaliated against the Hizzies in Lebanon in part as a preemptive move against the war supposedly being planned now. I think the Syrian and Iranian rush to get the Hizzies rearmed is suggestive of a set timetable for the attack, and that at this point the d-day is keyed to the time when US troops will be ready for redeployment in Iran.

This war has been planned for a long time. Moving tanks up to sitting duck positions isn't indicative that it's going to start in days, but seems like a good way to rattle sabers while actually getting the IDF used to seeing them there, ahead of the actual move. Israel used an analogous tactic of flight drills for the IAF prior to the 1967 war. Egyptian officers used these practice flights to set their watches.

Our alleged allies in NATO will be moving troops somewhere -- either into the former Yugoslavia when the US pulls its contingent out, or into Iraq, Iran, Kurdistan, or Syria -- or into France to put down the next escalation of Moslem violence.
