First and second place are the best, third is good for a small laugh. The rest not so much.
Second Place Todd Heisler The Rocky Mountain News The night before the burial of her husband's body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of 'Cat,' and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. "I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it," she said. "I think that's what he would have wanted."

Oh man.......triple hanky alert! ((sniff))
My monitor is blurry too and on top of that I am also watching CNN, only because they have an interesting but blurry TV show on called Combat Hospital.....prayers for Americas' Warriors and their loved ones.
Not unless I'm a wimp, too.
No.
This is another of the 3,000+ reasons we must triumph in the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns.
Yours too?
Must be somethin' going around...
No. Not unless you have lots of company...
All three are good. Don't ask me why, but I can envision a Norman Rockwell rendering #1 in oils. The individual portraits and varied character studies of the wondering people in the airplane portholes. I can't find words for #2, so we'll let it go at that, but in all fairness #3 is way up there for some much needed comic relief.
Must be a computer virus going around. Can barely see my monitor. Bless this soldier and his family.
Oh, gee, that just makes my heart hurt. I just can't imagine ever saying good bye to my husband. I know the spirit is gone, but I can imagine not wanting to leave him, also.
No.
I have not cried at a funeral since I was a kid, but I'm sobbing now.
God bless you, Katherine Cathey....Colin
Wow. I am speechless.
There's something in my eye. God bless those who serve (including their families) on our behalf.
"One more Marine reporting, sir-I've served my time in Hell."
sleep well, I cannot do but pray for you...
Semper Fi...

You are so correct. We cannot allow those left behind to ever wonder if their loved one sacrificed their life for nothing.
You want speechless? Go to the Rocky Mountain News archive and see if you can find the article that went with the photos. Powerful and sad beyond words. I'm a Marine Dad and found it almost too hard to read.
Rest well Cat. Peace to you Kathy
Wonder if there is a way to send this directly to John F Kerry.
get the kleenex out.
