Spanish school cancels Christmas
Wed Nov 29, 2006 5:13 PM GMT14
MADRID (Reuters) - A school in traditionally Catholic Spain has cancelled Christmas celebrations so as not to offend children who are not Christians, ABC newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The Hilarion Gimeno school in Zaragoza said teachers had put forward various reasons for not celebrating Christmas, but ABC said the worry was that Muslim children might be upset.
The school will not put on a nativity play or hand out presents, but pupils will be free to decorate the halls and sing carols.
"We are educators and we want our school programme to advance the personal development of our students as much as possible," the school said.
Christmas celebrations usually last for about a month in Spain, with parties starting in December and running through to January 6 for "Los Reyes", a huge fiesta to celebrate the visit of the three wise men to the new-born Jesus in Bethlehem.
How about the daytime fasting during the month of Ramadan?
Sounds good. Let's send a bill to Congress!
Okay, it looks like there are a lot downsides, except for the fact that I get the remote control for the TV, no questions asked.
Fake bacon makes me burp stinky burps for two days.
I ain't converting.
Do you remember how long it took that guy to die? I think it would be poetic justice if Castro and Franco shared the record for the most drawn out public deaths on record.
But after Ramadan, ya gets ta raise hell for the whole next month.
The fasting part wouldn't kill me. I usually eat before sunrise and skip lunch and don't eat until after dark this time of year. I'm good on two meals a day if that's the way it works out.
Has anyone posted photos of what these 72 virgins look like?
I mean, there might be a reason why they are virgins.
Have you even considered the 72 virgins?
I see you have.
I can't for the life of me understand what has happened to Spain since Franco left the scene...not that he was swell but he beats the hell out of these wimps. What's worse, Spain spent 700 years kicking these bast$#%s out of Spain after being subjugated to Dhimmi status and now they're practically giving it back? WTF? I continue to be further shocked and saddened to the point of disbelief.
33"But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
What a shame.
I'll cancel my Christmas plans when Muslims cancel Ramadan so as not to offend non-Muslims.
It comes as no surprise that European Socialists eager to work with U.S. Democrats .
It is just sad what has become of that country. I lived there para tres anos and followed the steps of Hemingway. From the bulls to the caves. They are nice people all around. You can't tell if you are talking to a Spanish woman anymore. All of my German relatives moved there. Du spreche Deutsch?
Yes, but a Christian will not admit that Jesus is a prophet and not the Savior. Islam recognizes Adam on the same order as Jesus of Nazareth. And there is no way Islam is going to demote Mohammed and call him "a" prophet. He is THE PROPHET.
There are Christians throughout the Middle East. It is also interesting to remember that there are Muslims who peacefully live in Jerusalem. I don't think Hezbollah recognizes them much, though.
Shoot -- a photo of Palestinians putting up Christmas decorations hit the newswire a couple days back. This PC stuff is disconcerting, but is far from an organized campaign to strike Christianity from society.
I am sure they will soon be allowing the five times a day call to Muslim prayer.
Where is El Cid when you need him?
We remove Christianity so as not to offend Muslims. But we don't dare remove Islam, for fear of enraging Muslims.
The West is in big trouble. The only hope is the eventual war between Catholic Hispanics and Muslims in America, after US has become part of Mexico.
Muslims believe in the Virgin Birth, and while their story of this is different, that does not prevent some Muslims from honoring Jesus by celebrating his birthday.
