Aide: Democrat leader heard of Foley e-mails in 2005 (Now they tell us)
CNN ^

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The head of the House Democrats' campaign committee, Rep. Rahm Emanuel, had heard of former Rep. Mark Foley's inappropriate e-mails to a former male page a year before they became public, a campaign committee aide told CNN.

Foley, a Republican, resigned after the scandal broke. House Speaker Dennis Hastert and other Republicans have suggested repeatedly that some Democrats knew about the e-mails earlier than they have acknowledged, but waited till midterm elections approached to bring up the issue.

Emanuel's campaign committee aide said Friday that the Illinois Democrat was informed in 2005, but never saw the correspondence and did not have enough information to raise concerns. The aide said Emanuel took "no action" because his knowledge was "cursory" and little more than "rumor."

The aide's acknowledgement differs from the flat "no" Emanuel gave in October when asked -- during an interview on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" -- if he or anyone on his staff knew of the e-mails before the scandal broke.

The e-mails surfaced when House Democratic staffer Matt Miller sent a copy of them to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's communications director, Bill Burton, in fall 2005, according to an investigative report released Friday. (Watch what the House ethics committee found in its probe of Mark Foley's e-mails Video)

Burton told Emanuel about the e-mails but did not tell reporters, the aide said.

In his deposition to the ethics committee, Miller said he also sent Foley's e-mails to the St. Petersburg (Florida) Times, the Miami Herald and Roll Call, according to the report. (Read the full report -- PDF)

Miller also sent the material to Harper's Magazine "and possibly others," the report said.

The Clinton filth/smear machine is back in full force.

I hate to say this but whoever our nominee is going to be I hope he has aides that can play with the dirty big boys.

That's part of the reason I refused to go apescheiss over the story. Anyone with half a brain knew the leak was political. The smarter ones just refused to snap at the bait.

You are right, MO....just think of what might have happened we don't know about..or could have happened, in the year that the dems were playing "hot potato" with the e-mails.

Rahm "Mossad" Emmanuel orchestrated the timing of delayed public 'disclosure' to maximize the political impact shortly before the election.

It's not a crime to withhold a political playing card, but the Democrats are corrupt to the core for doing so.

saw the exchange between Stephy and Rahm. Emanuel tried to change the question asked from did he know about the emails to had he actually seen them. You had to know then the greasy weasel not only knew about them, he's probably the one feeding them to Brian Ross.

Hello,

Scary, isn't it? But, the Dems got their election issue, who cares who got hurt in the process?

I have nothing but contempt for them...

However, I am glad to be here, among FRiends, MOgirl

We have the internet and talk radio, both of which will be banned or severely curtailed in the next two years.

Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: Oh, thank you very much.

We have the internet and talk radio,

That's nothing compared to the liberal media (newspapers, networks, academia, NPR, etc.)

But Rahm is not to blame - it's the GOP who is to blame for not protecting the pages ..??

This is the same thing the dems did about the prison abuse photos. They knew for months this was going on - yet they did nothing.

"The head of the House Democrats' campaign committee, Rep. Rahm Emanuel, had heard of former Rep. Mark Foley's inappropriate e-mails to a former male page a year before they became public"

He was saving the story for the campaign. Democrats have no scruples.

So, that slimy Clintonoid Rahm Emmanuel knew...so why didn't the House GOP Leadership?

If the GOP Leadership knew, they needed to get rid of Foley sooner. Of course, what if they really didn't know as they claim? Then that means that the Dems have superior political "intellegence data" on the GOP.

But as I have observed from the first, if the Democriminals really cared about protecting the innocent, they would have blown the whistle when they learned.

But I am not waiting on the Drive-by Media to note this.

Yep, surprise (although not to us), the Dems were well aware of this, held it for a year or so, shopped it to many in the press and finally got a hit in the press shortly before the 2006 election.
How do you get that? I can imagine the howl from our side if they started pushing this kind of rumor without any solid proof. I'll bet they didn't want to touch it with a ten foot pole.

Even if they did, I don't think they're obliged to time their release of information at a convenient time for us.

Let's face it, our side blew it. The Republican leadership in Congress did know earlier and were hoping they could keep it quiet. They had plenty of time to investigate and release it themselves at a more convenient time but they didn't.

Why blame the opposition? We would have done the same if we had the chance.
